Visa in hand...last minute tips?

Hey everyone!

So glad I got my visa yesterday..Leaving Montreal to Philadelphia by car monday.

My fiance and a buddy will be coming up to get me and my belongings and cat.

Just want to ask, if anyone has already dealt with this...I packed up about 7 boxes. Each box has a CLEARLY written description/approx value.

Ie : Kitchen, 100$

Decorative , Leisure 90$

etc...

i also am bringing my cat, with proof of vaccine/clean bill of health.

Now..What for do I fill out with me to be able to bring my stuff over with no problems?
I have found that CBP 3299 is the only form i need really. Is there another one?
Everything has been basically hiccup free and I dont want an issue right at the end..(well..end of part 1 anyway)

06-04-2007 = TSC stamps postal return-receipt for I-129f.

06-11-2007 = NOA1 date (unknown to me).

07-20-2007 = Phoned Immigration Officer; got WAC#; where's NOA1?

09-25-2007 = Touch (first-ever).

09-28-2007 = NOA1, 23 days after their 45-day promise to send it (grrrr).

10-20 & 11-14-2007 = Phoned ImmOffs; "still pending."

12-11-2007 = 180 days; file is "between workstations, may be early Jan."; touches 12/11 & 12/12.

12-18-2007 = Call; file is with Division 9 ofcr. (bckgrnd check); e-prompt to shake it; touch.

12-19-2007 = NOA2 by e-mail & web, dated 12-18-07 (187 days; 201 per VJ); in mail 12/24/07.

01-09-2008 = File from USCIS to NVC, 1-4-08; NVC creates file, 1/15/08; to consulate 1/16/08.

01-23-2008 = Consulate gets file; outdated Packet 4 mailed to fiancee 1/27/08; rec'd 3/3/08.

04-29-2008 = Fiancee's 4-min. consular interview, 8:30 a.m.; much evidence brought but not allowed to be presented (consul: "More proof! Second interview! Bring your fiance!").

05-05-2008 = Infuriating $12 call to non-English-speaking consulate appointment-setter.

05-06-2008 = Better $12 call to English-speaker; "joint" interview date 6/30/08 (my selection).

06-30-2008 = Stokes Interrogations w/Ecuadorian (not USC); "wait 2 weeks; we'll mail her."

07-2008 = Daily calls to DOS: "currently processing"; 8/05 = Phoned consulate, got Section Chief; wrote him.

08-07-08 = E-mail from consulate, promising to issue visa "as soon as we get her passport" (on 8/12, per DHL).

08-27-08 = Phoned consulate (they "couldn't find" our file); visa DHL'd 8/28; in hand 9/1; through POE on 10/9 with NO hassles(!).

Form 3299 is for stuff that is coming unaccompanied--ie the moving company is moving it down................ Just a general list--what you have is usually all they require--and many times, barely even look at it. Cat the big thing they may be concerned about is the Rabies shot. Pretty easy process--just remember to bring trhe "do not open" envelope,lol best of luck

Canadians Visiting the USA while undergoing the visa process, my free advice:

1) Always tell the TRUTH. never lie to the POE officer

2) Be confident in ur replies

3) keep ur response short and to the point, don't tell ur life story!!

4) look the POE officer in the eye when speaking to them. They are looking for people lieing and have been trained to find them!

5) Pack light! No job resumes with you

6) Bring ties to Canada (letter from employer when ur expected back at work, lease, etc etc)

7) Always be polite, being rude isn't going to get ya anywhere, and could make things worse!!

8) Have a plan in case u do get denied (be polite) It wont harm ur visa application if ur denied,that is if ur polite and didn't lie! Refer to #1

When I crossed the agent made me take a sharpie and write "Box 1 of ____" on each one. That may just be because he was onerous that day but it may also help you

In general the agents should help you with everything - but be prepared to spend a few hours at the border that day. I had everything in order and nobody was really ahead of me and it took an hour and a half.

Plan for the best--expect the worst,lol When I crossed over into Maine in 2004..the POE guards had no clue on what to do! They got out a big book, ended up calling another POE for help,lol It still went rather smoothly! The customs guy was to busy playing solitaire on the computer to care about my inventory list!!

Canadians Visiting the USA while undergoing the visa process, my free advice:

Crossed in Alberta at Coutts/Sweetgrass, and it took us 10 minutes, most of which was spent waiting around. Didn't open the uhaul, didn't look at the inventory list, barely talked to me. I put some fingerprints down, signed my name, and left. They hadn't much of a clue and said I'd get my green card in 6-8 months. Hubs already told me to play dumb so that they felt smart and important. Lol

Keep your cat in a crate! I got yelled at for my cat not being in the crate when we got there. I had my husband in a Penske truck behind me with all my stuff. I had the kids and my cat in my car. The officer was so irritated that my cat was loose. I'm laughing as I write this because I expected to deal with so much more other than my cat being the problem. He wanted him in the crate so he could LOOK at him with my trunk open. I offered to go put him in his crate but the officer said forget it and waved me on. When my husband pulled up, he had a list of all my stuff with him in the cab of the truck but the officer went to the back, threw the door open and closed it and told him to carry on. So that was about as easy as you can get. I had already done my actual POE though with just me and the kids and the car earlier. I moved the rest of my stuff later so I saved myself the hassle of having the truck and having to go park and go to secondary. Obviously that isn't an option for everyone but I was crossing every other week pretty much at that time.
