Does my wife need to bring an original or a copy of her I-864 for her interview? (merged)

Hi everyone,

My wife has her interview scheduled at the American Embassy in Guangzhou on January 6th and we have been collecting all the required documentation. Now, we noticed that copies of the sponsor and joint sponsor's I-864s must be taken to the interview. Now, I submitted all of our original paperwork to the NVC via mail instead of electronic processing, so the NVC should have forwarded a package containing all our original documents to the Embassy, correct? So if my wife brings copies into the interview, would that suffice in this case?? Or do my mother and I need to refill out signed I-864s and send them to my wife?

My thought process was that the original documents are only required to be brought to the interview if I went through electronic processing. Could someone point me in the right direction?

Because the NVC has the original she shouldn't need anything more than a copy.

You can't use a copy. You must have an original signature on the form. You can make a copy then sign it and that will work.

I think you missed the point.

They already submitted the original signature documents, so they don't have the real originals,

so instead, they plan to bring copies to the interview.

since it wasn't EP at NVC,

the stuff submitted into NVC is with the casefile.

However, even with that said, here's a caveat.

What is Guangzhou IV actually doing? Did they:

1. decide to wait on the arrival of the paper casefile out of China Customs Bonded warehouse or

2. decide to rely SOLELY on the SAFEFILE (electronic) version of the casefile, as it was scanned and created at NVC?

Without know which path Guangzhou IV actually is taking, I say be safe, and submit all new, all newly signed, originals on the I-864. Surely, if option 2, then it's needed. If option 1, then like 98 percent of all of the other casefiles on the planet, the paperwork is in there.
