LOL, the only club I am in is the old white guy with a foreign wife club, it seems.

It's my opinion, not saying it is right, but that is what makes an assault weapon... its looks. IMHO, any weapon pointed at me, from a slingshot to a crossbow to a full-auto M240B is an assault weapon... because I am being assaulted. I know you know the deal, but here's some pics to illustrate public fear over "assault" weapons:
