Quick question everyone. Will I be fingerprinted (again) on the day of my interview? I have already given my biometrics a couple of months ago (my interview is at the end of this month). When reading about other people's experiences with their naturalization interviews some have mentioned that they were fingerprinted prior to be taken in the interview room. Is this the case? Due to the extreme cold two of my fingertips are in terrible shape so I'm freaking out that they'll be "un-fingerprint-able" on the day of the interview. Thanks in advance!

Fingerprinting at the interview (when it's done) is just for identy verification and is not a full biometrics-style fingerprinting. You should be fine, but in any case, there's not much you can do about it so there's no point in worrying.

Hello everybody,

Today I had my interview - it was really easy just a formality.

Officer asked me to show her driver license, green card, passport and ssn card if i have it with me(I had everything).

Then she went through application confirming my answers did match on application.

Signed the last page of application.

Asked really simple questions, total 6 i think it was, then she presented the question that I had to read then I had write down the answer(well she told me what to write). Then she asked me if I wanted to take my oath today/same day at 3pm, I said sure and she gave me paper that I had to bring for my oath. She congratulated me and I left.(My interview was at 10.30pm).

At 3PM for my oath I brought the paper I was given in the morning during interview(needs to be filled up, basic "No" questions, signature, name, address) and green card. Those are the 2 items I took with me. Then they collected green cards and sorted our citizenship certificates in order we sat, called our names then we approached the desk to verify our certificate if it was accurate and if it was - signed it.

Then speech/song/congratulations, then they gave certificates, and whoever got theirs they could leave.

Nothing stressful, easy. Piece of cake.

Hopefully all of you will same easy pleasant experience at interview.

I'd like to thank you this forum and people who have been very helpful with their answers when I had questions.

Please feel free to ask any questions if you have one.

PS: I applied based on 3 year marriage, my spouse couldn't come with me if somebody is curious.

Thank you!!!

Thank you to all of you for congrats.

I did receive yellow letter asking to bring

  1. state issue ID
  2. any other travel documents that i was issued before

All i gave to my officer were:

  1. driver license
  2. russian passport
  3. green card
  4. ssn card

that's it.

Tax transcript you needed to send along with application, probably that's why they want to see it. I obtained mine online during business hours, strangely after biz hours i couldn't get it, it would ask me to call.

If you cannot get it online, you can call them and ask to fax it - that's pretty fast also. So if you still didn't obtain tax transcript either get it online or by fax.

Best of luck to everyone!!!

If you have been a permanent resident for 5 years it would have been considerably easier if you had applied based on the 5 year rule instead of based on marriage, but there's no problem with the way you applied. Good luck.

If you apply based on marriage, yes you need to bring your tax returns to the interview or send them with your application. If you apply based on 5 years of PR, then you don't need this.

Actually, there was an applicant in a similar situation and the interviewer simply changed the eligibility basis to 5 years during the interview and said that if he did that, he didn't have to look at as much evidence.

I applied based on marriage and 3 years of PR. I didn't submit any tax information with my N-400, and my yellow letter didn't ask me to bring any to the interview.

That's surprising. If you look at the documents checklist, the tax returns are optional if you present other documents instead. But they routinely ask for tax documents at the interview. I would take them with me just in case, but I guess they don't always need them.

Hi Freebiscuit,

I've been following your status closely because I also live in Northern Virginia and my NOA was just 7 days after yours. Is it normal we're not even in-line after 2 months? Didn't know Washington was this slow.

I think it all depends on the local field office, and the Washington field office's processing times have been longer than the standard 5 months for at least a year now.

Like you, I'm pleased that other November filers are getting interview dates - and in one case have even taken the oath - but I'm also anxious for the Washington office to get its act together and give me an interview date.

The USCIS helpline wasn't helpful. They just repeated what I already knew: that my case has been received. So I've made an appointment to see an immigration officer at the Washington office next Tuesday, to try to find out what's happening. If nothing else, it'll be a chance to take a first look at where I'll eventually be going for my interview.

That's good advice. Thanks.

I just assumed that, with my SSN, it would be simple enough for the IRS to tell USCIS that my taxes are up to date, as part of the general background checks. But I'll take my tax papers and anything else that might be pertinent anyway, just in case.
