I find it rather pathetic that anyone should feign surprise at the thought of terrorists acting on US soil. For the rest of us it became clear that would be part of a new paradigm, in the morning of 9/11.

Actually no - the incredible thing is that there isn't any new paradigm at all after 9/11. They (Bush administration and military-industrial-security complex) used it to promote hysteria and attack a country that had nothing to do with it. The lemmings are taught to repeat the meme about "everything changed" after 9/11 - sure. But it isn't a sign of being aware that you can repeat it. Because look how tragically stupid we have been behaving by turning our brains off and clucking "everything changed" after 9/11. Shooting off wildly and killing anything an authority figure can drum up a reason for.

It was the old warmongering/imperialist hubris on steroids after that - doubling down on what caused 9/11 in the first place. Or Viet Nam. We are still in Korea after more than half a century. How insane can this get? On to Syria! Bin Laden himself stated clearly in an interview with Frontline shown to millions of Americans that if American voters kept electing politicians that supported corrupt, oppressive dictatorships in the Middle East, continued supporting Israel's oppression of the Palestinians - that he would attack us domestically.

It is so absurd too that a journalist on a shoestring budget could interview him on camera like that whereas the great power of the military industrial security apparatus could not even locate him. If I recall correctly the reward on him was $25 million at the time for various bombings of US embassies, ships etc. across the world. I wonder if they even asked public TV where they interviewed him. And look how successful our invincible security and military forces were in nabbing him after 9/11 too.

The hypocrisy of this fear mongering is that its purpose is to promote attacking ISIS overseas. Not to protect the border, which it is advertised as in the title. It is a bait-and-switch that does not follow logically. If you want to stop people on the other side of the world from infiltrating and attacking you, then stop bombing them. Stop saying we are innocent victims minding our own business while you are whooping up the war cry in their homeland.

A new paradigm would have been the U.S. minding its own business after 9/11.
