Hi,

The $400 amount is old. It's from when the you had to pay the fee at the embassy rather than through the NVC. Ever since USCIS charges the separate $165 immigrant fee, they lowered the fee to be paid to the embassy to $230, which they recently raised to $325. I'm not sure why they haven't updated that. Also, I wasn't even aware that the difference would have to be paid if you had an interview after 12/12/14. I figured that whoever paid the fee before 9/12 would be fine.

This does not constitute legal advice.

For IR/CR-1 Visas

You pay

to NVC Prior to interview:

a IV Application Fee and an AOS FEE.

If approved after interview from embassy abroad, you will have to pay the USCIS (Ellis Island) $165 FEE to Process your Green Card. This is required prior to entering the USA. Direction will be attached to your Approved Visa Package. Mine was on a yellow sheet of paper.

I didn 't read mine until I was half way across the ocean to New York. I had to purchase inflight internet to make the payment on line

From what I read a few days ago, only non-immigrants have to pay the difference if the interview occurs after Dec 12th. If you paid the old fees and interview after that date for an immigrant visa, you are not required to pay the difference.

ROC from CR-1 visa (Green Card expiration date was Nov 24th 2016)

Link to the evidence I submitted. Be sure to send evidence spanning your entire marriage (especially for K-1) or as far back as you can. Just one or two bank statements will not cut it. I primarily focused on the two years of living here since I came in on a CR-1. If you don't have the fundamentals (i.e. joint accounts/policies), you can explain why in the covering letter. E.g. "While we do not have joint utilities, we both contribute to them from our joint bank account".

April 2018 - August 7th 2018: Tons of service requests, emails and now senator involvement to get my corrected green card back because what the heck, USCIS. Also some time in May I sent a letter to Potomac telling them I want to withdraw my I-90 since CSC were handling it.

August 8th 2018: Card in production thanks to the direct involvement of Senator Sherrod Brown's team

you also need to pay for your green card before you come to the u.s 165.00 uscis elis.gov

I heard that the person can come to the United States and pay for the green card after he/she gets here.

Hi, the prices went up, so at the embassy you have to pay the difference for the aos is now $120 and the other is $325.

"Affidavit of Support Review (only when reviewed domestically) $120"

Ketsuban, you are correct and the others are wrong. According to http://travel.state.gov/content/visas/english/fees/fees-visa-services.html:

"Fees that will increase (nonimmigrant fees only): Visa fees paid will be accepted 90 days after the new fees go into effect, as follows:

  • If you paid your visa fee before September 12, 2014, and your visa interview is on or before December 11, 2014, you do not have to pay the difference between the new and old fee amounts.
  • If you paid your visa fee before September 12, 2014, and your visa interview is on or after December 12, 2014, you will be required to pay the difference between the old and new fee amounts – no exceptions."

Those applying for an immigrant visa who paid the earlier fees ($230 and/or $88) will not have to pay the difference if their interview happens after December 12.

Ok thank you all for your responses but I still don't see where is the number $400 coming from.

VISA FEE: Unless the fee has been paid for you in the United States, you must

be prepared to pay the non-refundable fee of US$400.00or equivalent in

Dominican pesos per applicant. We can only accept payment in one currency (i.e.

you must pay the total entirely in U.S. dollars or entirely in Dominican pesos).

We accept cash and international credit cards as well.

This is really confusing.. I am Dominican and DO NOT TRUST ANY GOVERNMENT OFFICE IN THE DOMINICAN REPUBLIC, even those ones that are not run by Dominicans. They learn to play the game.

That it if the interview is on or after Dec 12 2014 that you will be require to pay the difference.

NO NO NO NO

Q: What if I already paid my fee for an appointment after September 12?

  • For immigrant visa fees, the fee charged to an applicant will be the fee printed on the fee bill the applicant receives from the National Visa Center. Receipts for Immigrant Visa application processing remain valid for one year.

If you refer back to my post I wrote Dec 12 not Sept 12. According to the Fee for services you will have to pay a difference if your interview is on or after DEC 12, refer to the following link.

You are NOT reading it properly and are incorrect.

Fees that will increase (nonimmigrant fees only): Visa fees paid will be accepted 90 days after the new fees go into effect, as follows:

Please read the BOLD. CR1 and IR1 are immigrant visas. As I quoted earlier, as long as the fee is paid by Sept 12, there is no extra payment and that receipt is valid for 1 year. Please stop spreading misinformation and causing panic and stress for people.

Like the other member said I don't trust DR or anyone based over there either. I remember last year was when they implemented the online visa forms and the website said "no it's not required if you submitted the paperwork before X date."

When my cousin and her husband got to the embassy, first thing they asked for was the barcode receipt that you get when you fill it out. As well as the receipt for the fee payment. Fortunately, I had taken the liberty to fill out the online version of the form even though the website said it wasn't required.

It definitely wouldn't hurt to have the difference of the fee in hand on the day of the interview, just in case. If it turns out you don't need it, great, you can use it to pay the $165 immigrant fee instead.

This does not constitute legal advice.

Agree, my cousin's K1 interview was a day before they changed the prices about 5 years ago and they had to pay the difference even though they argued that they didn't go into effect until the next day.

Better safe than sorry, especially in DR.
