N-400 Sept filers

Hi Everyone,

I wanted some quick advice. I will be submitting my N-400 Sept 2015 (I just received approval on my I-751 today, woohoo!). I looked at the N-400 instructions and had a question about evidence. The instructions list the following:

If you are applying for naturalization on the basis of marriage to a U.S. citizen, send the following 4 items:

1. Evidence that your spouse has been a U.S. citizen for the last 3 years:

- Birth certificate (if your spouse never lost citizenship since birth); or

- Certificate of Naturalization; or

- Certificate of Citizenship; or

- The inside of the front cover and signature page of your spouse's current U.S. passport; or

- Form FS-240, Report of Birth Abroad of a Citizen of the United States of America; and

2. Your current marriage certificate; and

3. Proof of termination of all prior marriages of your spouse (divorce decree(s), annulment(s), or death certificate(s)); and

4. Documents referring to you and your spouse:

- Tax returns, bank accounts, leases, mortgages, or birth certificates of children; or

- Internal Revenue Service (IRS)-certified copies of the income tax forms that you both filed for the past 3 years; or

- An IRS tax return transcript for the last 3 years.

So, my question is, for numbers 1 and 4, I only have to send one piece of evidence for each e.g. 3 years of tax transcripts will suffice for number 4.

Is this really the only evidence you need to put together? The I-751 was so burdensome in terms of evidence that I'm now wondering if the N-400 can be this straight forward.

Yes. I only sent tax transcripts also, but will be prepared with other "evidence" for the interview.

HI VJ Members

I apply for N-400 in September 2014, while filling the application i provided all the documents (whatever they think i provide them with application), unluckily forget to send the state issue ID. so when they send me the yellow letter they just mention to bring the state issue ID.

Now on 20th Feb i received my interview letter (they call me in Sacramento office), In the letter it says

"Must bring letter , Green Card, Passport, marriage certificate, spouse birth or neutralization certificate"

and also received N-659 form (Neutralization interview Document check list ) asking for IRS 1722 letters and bla bla bla ....

I only have IRS return request transcript (which i ordered couple of days ago). so question is do i have to orders these form also and also there give option to bring 5 years or 3 years tax papers.

logically I'm in USA since 2011 (3 years) so take only 3 years tax papers or 5 years (last 2 years wife filling separately)

also in last month i receive a letter from state that my wife she owe some money from her 2010 tax return like $50, (some kind of parking ticket), so i paid that amount through website, so the I/O really looks and ask for those issue.

and do i need to take a copy of N-400 application which i submitted at the time of filling application.

I passed my interview on Friday in the SF USCIS office. It was very quiet there in the afternoon, maybe 3 other people there in a floor that can hold 100s. Very straight forward interview. They stopped asking from the list of 10 questions when I got the first 6 right, and we had a laugh about the writing test that I forgot how to spell Coloumbus Columbous Columbus :-) Most time was spent verbally repeating and acknowledging my written application. They did not look at further original documents I had brought. I think they are scheduling oath ceremonies a month out, so I was verbally told 25th Feb, will update later if different in the letter.

O YEAYYYYYYYY!!!!!! Great news PAGE 11...I edited my reply =) I misunderstood what I read but when I went to check the USCIS website I got the same notification. YEAYYY!!!! WHo knows we might be scheduled on the same day and I'd get to see you there.

So interview went well for my dad and mom. They both got approved yesterday and their oath taking will take place next friday.
