Is it just us, or do the rest of you get oodles of unsolicited phone calls every bloody day. They are crafty buggers..sometimes they say hello is that Mrs ???....I reply and then off they go...but it's a recording !!! The others thank you for your support and then ask how much money you are giving them !! I should coco...I've had some fun with them , but enough is enough...7am Sunday morning phonecalls break into our cuddle time So, the question is (yep, there is one ) is there somewhere you can have your number taken off the list for all these nuisance calls ?

Yes.. there is a National "Do not call" register. If you put your name on there you will not get sales calls to your house. Some organizations are exempt from this.. so you may still get a few calls.

If you've given them money in the past the national list won't work. You can wait for a human being and ask to be taken off their list.

when they say your name, just say who? and when they tell you who they are, tell them they have the wrong number. works for me

Or tell them you died. Was visiting my stepfather, a telemarketer called and asked to speak to my mother(who had been dead for about 2 years.

"She's deceased." I answered in reply.

"Oh, OK, I'll call back later." was the response.

when they call my house i ask them what are you wearing,what color hair you have,you have s/o,after about 4 of these questions they hang up.

I just spin it around on them and make them uncomfortable.

Answer the phone, ask them to hold on for a second, put phone in drawer, go and do whatever you were doing before they rang.

By the time you go back to the phone they'll have hung up...

All of these suggestions don't solve the problem. That is your phone is ringing and it's someone you don't want to talk to. Just like when your Email address starts getting spammed there's nothing you can do but change your phone number. When you get your new number NEVER and I mean *NEVER* give it out to anyone who is not a friend/family. Then sign up for a free account at PrivatePhone.com and use it when you need to give out your number but you don't want to risk it getting on a spam list. That number will dump to voicemail. You can setup Email notification of voicemails and even have it attach the message to the Email if you want. The only drawback is you have to log in every so often to keep your account active.

Another couple things you can do are:

turn off the ringer when you go to sleep; tell your friends and family to call your cell phone in case of an emergency;

get a phone with caller ID and screen your calls; I never answer calls from 800 numbers or even from local numbers that I am not familiar with.

We did notice a big difference when we added our numbers to the no-call list. There are still some who refuse to acknowledge that so yes, I do screen calls and do not answer any 800 or other of the toll-free numbers. When someone does manage to get through, I have generally interrupted them and asked in an incredulous voice "Do you know you have just called a number on the no-call list? Do you know that is illegal, that you are not supposed to be calling someone on the no-call list? What is your name and number so I can report you?" They hang up right away and they do not call back. Unfortunately, it doesn't work if it is a recording so I just hang up.

If you report them, they get 3 warnings then a $13,000 fine per call.

I have to always check the DNC sentry before calling someone unless they've called me first!
