Hi everyone.

My fiance (now husband) came here on a Fiance Visa on June 9th, we married on July 22nd and got our NOA1 for AOS a few days ago. We are going to get him on my health insurance through my employer soon. However I have some unexpected medical payments to pay off that wont be paid off until November so it makes our budget rather tight, putting him on my health insurance now would make things tough (tough but doable).

Here are my choices.

1. Get him on my health insurance now (I have 60 days from when we got married to put him on).

or

2. I can wait for the next open enrollment season in mid-November where we are free to change or add people to our health insurance plans.

My question is how long can a beneficiary go without insurance before getting fined or in trouble?

I think that the more pressing question should be:

What are we going to do if the husband, due to unforeseen circumstances, requires medical care or dental care during a period of potential non-coverage?

Seeing as you are just married, it is entirely possible that your husband could qualify for insurance before the November period. You would have to call the exchange to find out.

Nothing to do with the Exchange, she can get cover through her Employer.
