Hello…I received the NOA1 text and e-mail 6/24/14; I got back home to see the proof of meeting over the past 2 years was returned to me (pictures). A letter was attached to it stating "we are returning an item(s) you sent in support of your application/petition as it is a format we cannot place in your file folder for review by an officer during the adjudication process”. The pictures were dated with locations and names in a photo paper (like a photo book).

I have taken the pictures of the photo book and wrote the date, location and names on the back of each picture. I’m trying to avoid any delays (RFE). Do I send the pictures back to the address shown on the NOA1 letter I received or just wait till they ask for it or take the pictures in during the interview?
Your opinion(s) will be appreciated.

Thank you

Yeah they can only take single pages or loose photos in ziplock bags.

I would wait till the next time you send official documents (likely at NVC stage) and send them then. Normally bringing them to interview would be fine, but with Lagos, you want to front load.

I agree with Penguin. Sometimes I believe that the reason for the ziplock bags is because they do not want to tamper with the pictures. That is why it is also a requirement for the passport photo.

Good luck on the rest of the Journey

I'm pretty sure this point from the General Tips site from USCIS (http://www.uscis.gov/forms/forms-and-fees/general-tips-assembling-applications-mailing) was the one that got you your photo album returned:

In preparing your packet, please take note of the following:

  • Do not use binders or folders that cannot be easily disassembled.

They scan all the submitted materials for inclusion into the 'electronic file' for your case. So, if pictures are in a binder, or a picture book, it will be harder for them to handle, as they'd have to disassemble the picture book, etc. Too much work, so they will just not use it, and return it to you.

Hi @Goodness, did they ever request the photos or did you send them during NVC processing?

The K-1 (fiance) and IR-1/CR-1 (spousal) visa process is VERY different.

In the K-1 process you don't send anything to NVC. After the I-129F petition is approved by USCIS, the case gets forwarded to NVC. NVC issues a case number and forwards the K1 case right away to the appropriate US Embassy/Consulate where the visa interview will be held.
