1. The other half is here on an H-1B. So we are readying our adjustment of status application to be sent out mid-September, and we went to check his I-94 to get the number and the last date of entry - no problem. Number fine, last date of entry correct.

When we clicked through however, it has the incorrect point of entry! It's one letter off - he entered through Shannon, Ireland (SNN) and wherever it said he came in through was INN. Which is apparently somewhere called Klienbitten or something like that.

What do we do about this? He has all the correct stamps from Shannon in his passport. He has never heard of or been to where ever the other place is. I was with him when we came back to the US through Ireland (we were there for a family wedding - not ours!).

I am terrified this is going to come back to bite him somehow. Has anyone ever heard of this happening?

2. If he goes through immigration in the foreign country (he does in Ireland, you go through US immigration IN Shannon, Ireland) is that his point of entry? Or is the point of entry the US airport we come in to? (JFK)

If he has all the corroborating evidence like stamps in his passport, then I don't think it will be a problem. You are correct that some places have "pre-clearance" abroad which counts as POE, in this case, Shannon, Ireland. INN is innsbruck in Austria, and they do not have pre-clearance, so it is impossible for it to be a POE. I think that helps make the mistake clear.

If you are still worried, you can call the CBP deferred inspection facility to get the I-94 corrected. http://www.cbp.gov/contact/deferred-inspection/overview-deferred-inspection

Just to add to Harpa's advice, there is a downloadable excel file on her link, "70 Deferred Inspection Sites". Download it and look for the nearest DIS as there are a number of NY offices in that file. Contact them and see if you can have the information of your husband's I-94 corrected by phone. Otherwise, you need to schedule an appointment to have this resolved in person.

From my experience in NJ Newark DIS, they are very helpful and I was able to have my name corrected through a phone call. But as I read from others, they have to show pertinent docs for proof of the correction request.
