...but the preznit ludicrously claims the influx is due to declining violence in Central America.

A new intelligence assessment concludes that misperceptions about U.S. immigration policy – and not Central American violence – are fueling the surge of thousands of children illegally crossing the Mexican border.

The 10-page July 7 report was issued by the El Paso Intelligence Center (EPIC), which according to the Justice Department website is led by the DEA and incorporates Homeland Security. Its focus is on the collection and distribution of tactical intelligence, information which can immediately be acted on by law enforcement.

"Of the 230 migrants interviewed, 219 cited the primary reason for migrating to the United States was the perception of U.S. immigration laws granting free passes or permisos to UAC (unaccompanied children) and adult females OTMs (other than Mexicans) traveling with minors,” the report said.

Someone had to do an intelligence assessment to figure that out? I'm in the wrong business.

Why is this blog comparing the perceived likelihood of being allowed to stay in the US (specifically the US) with a fear of violence as a likely cause of wanting to leave in the first place? No one simply migrates because they have been told that if they do they will probably get to stay. That's not a factor in a decision to migrate, that's a factor in a decision on where to migrate to. There has to be a motivation to leave, and that seems to remain completely obscure from this exciting, but very silly series of reports. I guess if you can't analyze what you are being asked to believe you will believe most anything if it fits your personal prejudice.

Who's drinking what? You believe that someone is telling people in central and south America to come to the US because they will be allowed to stay and that's the primary motivation for them leaving their own country. That's not a fact, that's a fiction. The report specifically says the primary reason for migration to the US, not the primary reason for migration. You can see the difference between these two statements, can't you? Seriously, you do see that they are two entirely different statements? Come on, you see it, right?

Unfortunately I believe that to be the case. The Obama administration is being blamed - surprise, surprise! - for a bill signed by a previous administration. It is a classic case of the motley crew blaming the firefighters, not the arsonist.

The William Wilberforce Traffick Victims Protection Act of 2008, signed into law by George W. Bush, prevents the deportation of unaccompanied minors back to Central America.

There has to be something wrong with the place you are living in to want to migrate in the first place. Yeah, I am sure the US is the primary place that people from Central and South America wish to migrate to, but I am sure they are not leaving their own country just because the US is seen as an easy place to migrate to, they are leaving because of some deficiency in the country they are currently citizens of. It could be economic, it could be fear of drug gangs and violence, there are lots of reasons to want to migrate and then there are the top places to migrate to once the decisions to migrate has been made. Two different questions and comparing the answers to two different questions as the OP blog does, makes for poor a argument.

Your little nugget of truth is an interesting one though, all the same :)

Say I am a college student siting around in my small cramped dorm room, bored out of my mind, I am broke for the week and stuck eating Ramen noodles and cafeteria food.

But wait, I hear there is a huge party at the playboy mansion. Lots of naked hot women, beer, lots of free food. I would love to go, but if I try to sneak in and get caught, there are some real unpleasant consequences, so I will just hang out and the dorm, eat my Ramen noodles and be bored.

But wait, I just heard Hef say, that if you can sneak past the really lax security you can get to stay, not only for the party but maybe for life. In fact several spokes people for playboy have encouraged it and are demanding the Playboy mansion be expanded.

I have always wanted to go, sure beats dorm life. Now I have a reason to go.

IMHO it is a combination of several factors. On one side you do have the endemic deficiencies of the Central and South American nations, while on the other, the universal appeal of the American dream. However, the situation we have at hand is the result of bill after bill that were enacted and that turned our immigration laws into the joke they are today. These laws have been abused for years. The 14th amendment alone is the subject of ridicule and mockery to the well-to-do few of far away continents and lands.

To the politically myopic it is all Obama's fault. It blends well with their narrative of ignorance, superstition and bigotry, however when you look at our history and the way immigration and its laws have evolved - or rather devolved - throughout the years, you will realize that the blame - if one wishes to use such qualifier - falls squarely on the shoulders of We The People... We need immigration reform but our elected representatives are busy with their petty personal partisan agenda. In essence, blaming Obama for this crisis as as asinine as not ignoring all other presidents and congresses before him.
