My fiancé mailed documents on 30th may 2014 and she got receipt # on 6th June 2014. When I tracked my case, its saying that alien registration number has been changed on 11th june 2014 but she didnt receive noa1 neither by mail nor by email. Is it necessary that first we get noa1 then alien registration number changes ? Please respond......Thnx

You say you got the receipt# on June 6th. Unless this is a receipt from USPS or the courier company deliverying it, this *IS* the NOA1 from USCIS, meaning, they have received your package, and accepted it for processing. If it is indeed the NOA1 message, it will also include the case number (starting with "WAC" or "SRC"), and, also, which service center it has been routed to for processing.

If you got a message that the Alien Reg Number was changed (or, in this case, created), that's a good thing, that means that they are working on the case.

So, hang in there, this MAY take a few to even many months !

I-797C is for the hard copy

I-797 is when we receive e-notification

This is the other Emanette.

The email they sent out confused you, but my Fiancee is actually correct.

There are numerous I-797 types.

I-797C is the NOA1. The email they send only says I-797, which led to your confusion. This is the official link ....

http://www.uscis.gov/forms/form-i-797c-notice-action

The NOA2 is the I-797.

http://www.uscis.gov/i-797-info

Here are the different types. the only two thay apply to K-1 visa (that I am aware of) are the 797 and 797C.

Form Number Description

I-797, Notice of Action Issued when an application or petition is approved.

I-797A, Notice of Action Issued to an applicant as a replacement Form I-94.

I-797B, Notice of Action Issued for approval of an alien worker petition.

I-797C, Notice of Action Issued to communicate receipt of payments, rejection of applications, transfer of files, fingerprint biometric, interview and re-scheduled appointments, and re-open cases.

I-797D Accompanies benefit cards.

I-797E, Notice of Action Issued to request evidence.

I-797F, Transportation Letter Issued overseas to allow applicants to travel.
