My fiancés first name "legally" is Ma, and every document including birth certificate and passport, NBI clearance, etc has it listed that way. Ma is short for Maria, which is the name our lawyer used to fill out the I-129F. It passed through USCIS and got sent to the Visa Processing Center, and is being forwarded to the Manila embassy. We just noticed that the name on the letter says Maria, and the paperwork is all done under the name Maria, but she doesn't have one piece of legal documentation anywhere that says Maria on it. We are concerned for the interview! What should we do? Is this going to be a problem?

We had something similar happen and did not catch it until we had the NOA2 in hand. We had missed one letter in Pui's last name. I ended up emailing the embassy and let them know we missed a letter in her name. They replied back that when she submitted packet 3 to the embassy to include a copy of her biography page in her passport which was already what we had to do for packet 3. We had no problem concerning her name during the interview.

So either you or your lawyer is going to have to email the embassy asking them what they would like you to do. Like belinda63 said I would be contacting your lawyer to see what they will be doing to correct the issue and I would also say you want to see what they are going to be sending to the embassy before they send it.

my name in birth certificate is "Ma." so my consultant put "Ma" in our petition since they dont accept period in a name. my nbi clearance is "Ma" too so i asked y didnt they put period in my "Ma." and they said that it will be a fake certificate if they put period after "Ma", and that U.S embassy already knows about it. Maria and Ma means that they r two different people. so i think she will be needing an affidavit from a lawyer saying that this Maria and Ma are one person only.

When you get your NBI add the AKA for the name that the lawyer used (idiot) just to cover the bases.

My Wife's name starts with Ma also. It was no problem in the Philippines. Make sure to pay attention to what is being put into the computer when she files for Social Security Card, Dirver's License, State Identification or W-2s. Everyone tries to put in Maria in the US and that will cause trouble for you. The period will always be dropped as it pertains to anything US/State Government issued, it is what it is. Good luck in your journey.
