Me and my fiance have been flying right through this whole K1 visa process. Everything was going great. Our I-129F was approved and send to the Embassy in Bangkok. They received it and my fiance just completed the DS-160. The problem now is that I just lost my job. I worked there over 6 years and made well over the 125% poverty level. But now I'm unemployed and desperately seeking a job, any job. I'm considering taking a class to get my CDL to become a truck driver but that takes time and at this stage in our visa process time is not on our side. There are not many options for employment where I live. I have several people, family and friends, that make good money that are willing to joint sponsor us if needed. So my question is if I don't find a job soon will the Bangkok Embassy allow joint sponsors if I also show proof I'm taking a class to obtain my CDL and seeking employment? Also if my fiance just submitted the DS-160 how much time do we have between now and the interview where she will need to provide the documents that I can support her?

A couple things:

1. You should be fine as far as the embassy is concerned as long as your income was 125% of the poverty line for 2013. Did you fill out the I-134 yet? If not just supply your tax transcripts for tax years 2013, 2012, and 2011 if you have them. If you don't have them, get them. You can get them online here: http://www.irs.gov/Individuals/Get-Transcript%C2'>

2. The U.S. Embassy in Bangkok almost never accepts co-sponsors for K-1 visas. I doubt they would in your case. The rare case where I've seen them accept a co-sponsor, the petitioner had just finished university. Things like that.

If you can work 40 hours a week at 10 dollars an hour you would just barely meet the 125% minimum (if its the before tax amount that is used?). Telemarketing, pizza delivery and report all your tips, landscaping. Just get a $hit job and hold it up until her interview. From what I remember reading about they often look more at your current income rather than past. (I could be wrong)

I've actually been reading a bit about this. I'm not too familiar with it personally since I was IR-1 and had to file an I-864 and not an I-134. If you read the I-134 instructions, it doesn't say anything at all about tax transcripts unless you're self employed. However, I know for a fact that consulates put tax transcripts above anything else for some reason. Self employed, or working a full time job. I'm gonna ask that this thread be moved to the K-1 forum so the OP can get more answers.

Topic has been moved back to the K-1 forum as it refers to part of the process necessary to obtain a K-1 visa and is most likely to be better answered in this forum.

“...Isn't it splendid to think of all the things there are to find out about? It just makes me feel glad to be alive--it's such an interesting world. It wouldn't be half so interesting if we knew all about everything, would it? There'd be no scope for imagination then, would there?”

I have a solid work history with management experience. I've applied at just about every place within a 50 mile radius that pays $10/hr+ and no luck yet. I've even begged for my old job back but my former superiors didn't want to lose their jobs so that's why I'm now out of the job. Might have a lawsuit against my former employer, but that's not going to help us get our visa.

When I did my K1 in BKK in 2008/09, I submitted my Tax returns for 2 years (1040 and W2's), along with a employment verification letter. This was all originally sent when I filed with USCIS, and used the exact same returns and letter when we went to the embassy. I didn't bring in any pay check stubs, nor was I asked to update the letter. In my case the income on the tax return was well above the poverty level, so I don't know if that made a difference. Not sure if much has changed.

Another option is to ask your previous employer to give you a new employment verification letter back dated before you were let go. Explain the situation and they might be amenable.

Good luck.

well, if you can't get a job you could move your application to a different county where they accept joint sponsors. Up here in Wisconsin in my town, anyone can get a job for 10-12$ per hour at a telemarketing place or 15$ per hour welding; but our area was not hit so bad in the last economic slowdown. Perhaps you should temporarily relocate to South Dakota and make 20-25$ fracking for natural gas. Sorry none of this sounds pleasant but you either need to be working to show you can currently support her, have a huge amount of liquid assets, or move the petition to a joint sponsor friendly county. Good luck, maybe make a new thread with a title like "I-134, unemployed, co-sponsor not an option"
