Army Commander-in-Chief Gen Prayuth Chan-ocha Tuesday declared martial law that covers the entire nation.
In a televised announcement, Prayuth calls for the public to continue their lives as usual.

In the martial law announcement, Prayuth stated that the declaration was necessary to prevent people from committing violence and to return peace and order to the country.Following the martial law declaration, the Army chief issued an order to set up the peacekeeping command to replace the Centre for the Administration of Peace and Order. The Army chief is the chief of the peacekeeping command.

The peacekeeping command would have the authority to summon to be interrogated and to hand over documents and evidences to the authorities.

The order, which appointed the command, stated that all government agencies that are parts of the structure of the CAPO, except the Army, Navy and Air Force, must return to their agencies and their normal activities.

The peacekeeping command also has the authority to demand the Internal Security Operations Command, the Royal Thai Police, the Army, the Navy, the Air Force, the Interior Ministry and other government agencies to support their personnel to support the operations of the command.

Reacting to the martial law declaration, Jatuporn Prompan announced that the red shirts would continue their rally at the Utthayan Road.

The People's Democratic Reform Committee announced that it would cancel a planned march Tuesday because of the martial law.

Is sister going to face charges or take it on the lamb?

She's probably packing her bags. I hope she likes the desert climate. I actually feel bad for her. She was in way over her head, and her sorry a$$ brother (Thaksin) only cares about himself.

ETA: That Thai under my name to the left means: "Kill Thaksin"

Yeah but just as a curiosity. Shouldn't they have learned from the last time?

It's a pretty similar situation actually. Thaksin ran in an election in 2006 that the opposition boycotted. There were many irregularities in the 2006 election and in a huge slap to his face, the election was never royally endorsed. So it was invalid all the way around. Thaksin figured, so what, I'll just declare myself interim prime minister. We'll the military showed him what and booted him out. In the mean time the guy was tried and convicted on corruption charges and split to Dubai where he remains today. The military was in power for a little over a year and they held elections in 2007 or 2008 I believe. Thaksin's party won again with a coalition. Well in December 2008 one of the coalition parties switch sides and Thaksin's party was now the minority. HE said we'll just see about that. In April 2010 he paid his mobs to come to Bangkok and hold it hostage for 2 months. Finally the military went and broke it up and many people died in May 2010. Keep in mind he owns the police, so they just stood by during the 2010 "protests" They had elections in 2011 and Thaksin's party won again. Instead of trying for some type of reconciliation, who does the guy make PM? His own sister. They ran on slogans like Thaksin thinks, Pheu Thai does. And he even gave interviews stating that "she is my clone" People seemed to let it slide. No protests. She did a pi$$ poor job of running the country and it's close to bankruptcy thanks to her rice scam. Still no real public dissent. Fast forward to October 2013. They passed an amnesty bill for Thaksin (big brother) at 4 AM while Thailand slept. Big f*ing mistake. That brought out the protestors, and pretty much led to where things stand today.

It's much more complicated of course, but the reality is that there is a meglomaniac in Dubai destroying the country via Skype. The only way to move forward is to make sure that guy, his family members, friends, maids, pets, whatever have nothing to do with Thai politics moving forward. His massive ego is probably too large to stay out of it. But at this point, the military are running things and they'll bring stability to the place for awhile. They are trying to say this is not a coup, but it is. I wish it would've happened sooner.

I have read all this for years now. It has been an international soap opera much like in the days of the Marco's and the Philippines were back in my day.

Army seizes all TV, radio stations

The Peace-Keeping Command Centre (PKCC) set up under Tuesday's martial law, has issued order No.3 requiring all radio and television stations to halt regular programming and link up with army-run TV and radio to broadcast announcements and orders to the people "when asked".

The order affects "all radio broadcasting stations, television stations and satellite and cable television stations, both government and privately run".

Thaicom Plc, the country's sole satellite owner and operator of the backbone of most of the country's communication channels, told its employees to stay away from the office and work from home for the day.

Around 100 troops occupied the Thaicom grounds, stations and facilities at Khae Rai, Nonthaburi province, and at Lat Lum Kaeo, Pathum Thani, from the moment martial law was declared at 3am, according to media reports.

The military announcement claimed this is to make sure that all information reaching the public is accurate.

This is also to maintain continuous and timely communication links between the capital city and other regions.

The order takes effect immediately, until further notices

They shut off all foriegn news stations when this happened in 2006, but my internet still worked. I had to laugh at that
