Where is 6 months mentioned?

“If you know the enemy and know yourself, you need not fear the result of a hundred battles. If you know yourself but not the enemy, for every victory gained you will also suffer a defeat. If you know neither the enemy nor yourself, you will succumb in every battle.”

You first need to be accepted into an accredited program and demonstrate you meet the financial requirement.

The school will send you a form, an I20. You take that to the border and the agents process it.

No, Canadians do not enter with a specific student visa like most countries, it is a different process. I was a student from 2005 - 2008

good luck

canadian_wife is correct. Make sure that the school knows that you are an international student when you apply, so that they will know to send you an I-20. If the school's international students office is not familiar with Canadians, they will probably tell you to apply for a visa with the I-20. You do not do that. First go online to pay the Student and Exchange Visitor Information System (SEVIS) fee of $200, and print the I-901 form. Then you drive to the border and tell them that you are applying for F-1 status, presenting your passport, I-20, and I-901. You will then be taken to secondary inspection where they will stamp your I-20 for initial entry into the U.S. and issue you an electronic I-94. Then you enter the U.S. and register your whereabouts with the international students office and start your studies.
