From the Department of State (DOS) FAQs:

With your visa, you can apply for a single admission at a U.S. port-of-entry within the validity of the visa, which will be a maximum of 6 months from the date of issuance. You must marry your U.S. citizen fiancé(e) within 90 days of your entry into the United States.

My K-1 visa valid for 6 months from the date of issuance not from my medical date.

Edit:

Each consulate/embassy has own policy regarding issuing a visa for an applicant.

K-1 expires 6 months from day of medical exam.

Same rule for every country. The rule is not different for Egypt.

This is my understanding of the K1 expiration: IF you medical exam is valid for a year, then you have 6 months from the date of issuance. IF your medical exam is valid for 6 months, then you have 6 months from the date of your medical exam. From what I've read, some countries vary on their medical exam validity. I could definitely be wrong though!

we just received the K1 from cairo. expires 6 months from medical date. we did medical 1 month before the interview (no AP for us) therefore we have 5 months to travel after the visa was issued. does that make sense. this is current advice for you since this just happened....

OK Fedo, I'm going to give you the long answer. :)

I saw on VJ here that some people did theri medical interviews way before the interview was even scheduled. Many people that did that seemed to say that the embassy required them to redo the medical stuff before they would issue the visa. Because of seeing this, I took it upon myself to email the embassy every month that we were waiting for an interview date to see which month of applicants they were interviewing currently. WHen they got close to our month, I had my fiance go and do the medical. So that is why he did his only about 3 weeks before his interview. We wanted to leave time in case they gave him extra processing so we wouldn't have to pay for the medical twice.

They may request that your fiance do this again depending on when her interview ends up being. Do you have an interview date yet? If they do request updated medical information, you just send it in to the embassy once you have it. Don't let this be a huge stress for you guys. In our experience the embassy staff were very helpful, professional, and kind. I suppose not everyone has had that kind of interactions with them though.

To answer your last question, our visa was issued 5 days after the interview, this included an Egyptian weekend, so I was amazed that they did that in 3 business days. We were really hoping it would be a quick but didnt expect that quick. My fiance did already have a valid and current visitor visa with which he traveled to the US with twice, so this may have helped the embassy have confidence in our sincerity and avoid extra security clearances.

I hope this helps. If you have any other questions about our experience let me know.
