Hello,

So here is the case: I got married in August 2013, and my application has been approved. It has been sent to the NVC and soon well receive the necessary documents. I graduated in December 2013, so I currently have a job that I make around 400 dollars before taxes so around 20,000 yearly, and I also am a Masters Degree full time student.

So this is the first year I work since graduating my bachelors. So the last 4 years, my income was 0.00 I had a scholarship that did not require me to have a job, all it required me to have is a high GPA. So now that were getting close to the I-864 they will require that I meet the income requirement. I dont have a joint sponser; however, I have 2 cars that are both valued about 8000 dollars and a bank account with around 20,000. Do all these meet the income requirement or will I still need a sponser ?

I tried to find anyone, but everybody seems to be uptight about this issue. I really dont know what to do? can someone inlight me with more info?

Hi! I'm not sure if you've already read this from the I-864 instruction; Page 7. Number 10. It is about using your asset. I guess you need to have a joint sponsor. Because the assets looks like to be use just for the difference of what you earned the past year.

Fellow VJ's, correct me if I am wrong. :)

No applications have been approved, a petition has been approved. Just semantics but it's important.

With a yearly income of about 20k plus 20k in the bank and an extra car, you should be okay without a joint sponsor IMHO.

Figure out exactly what your income is and use your bank account statements as assets to make up the difference. You'd likely have to have your car appraised on it's condition and value if you wanted to use it.

Current income trumps past income, however you may want to inquire in your regional forum if your particular consulate is picky about past income.

Without any income, you do not have enough... It means that you need 3x the 125% poverty in assets... Wich form2 would be approx 60k... You have 20 liquid, MAYBE one car (you cannot leverage your primary vehicle or,home) so about $25,000 which leaves you $35,000 short for assets.. Other than securing a job which pays enough, you will need a co-sponsor... Sorry

Ok.. Just saw you do have 20 k a year for income... When you factor in the 20k in savings, then your should be Ok...

There was another poster who also thought the same thing that posted before I did. ( FYI: I did read you last line.) So I just wanted to point it out for everyone.

No panties are bunched but thanks for looking at my butt. :D

If you didn't notice btw, we posted at the EXACT same time. LOL

So should I write a letter or my pay stubs and a letter explaining the case would work? and for the car estimation, should I copy both titles and send them with the I-864?

Has anyone went through this, or are you just guessing? Another and last question, do you know if there is anyway for my wife to come until everything is done? like I once heard something about a K-3 visa. Again, im not sure thats why im asking. Thanks again to eveeryone!

I appreciate all your answers.....

k3 visa are rarely granted. They cost twice as much as a CR1 because you have to adjust the immigrant's status.

I wouldn't use the cars unless absolutely necessary. They would only count one anyhow because selling both might cause undue hardship (at least in the eyes of the CO.)

On your I-864 include your assets and in the AOS package supply a bank statement showing the amount in there, include pay stubs since Dec 2013, and a letter from your employer stating your name, position, and yearly wage before taxes.
