US Six Month Tourist Visa

I recently returned back to America on a Visa Waiver and I'm staying for eighty days until mid July.

The customs officer said that I could apply for a six month tourist visa.

Has anyone else heard this?

Has anyone successfully applied for this?

Any information would be most appreciated as I want to return in October but the customs official said the 90 day visa waiver is for the whole year not just single trips during the year and that my only option is the six month tourist visa.

Cheers...

You can apply for one in the US Embassy on your country, but there is not guarantee of them issue you one, and I think you cant come anymore on the Visa Waivet Program after... Any tourist visa gives you the chance of up to six months visit to the US, its up to the POE officer to determine how long you can stay or even if you can get into the country... You cannot stay for more than six months of one year and if they see you are trying to live here under a tourist visa they can deny you entry

I love you Charles forever!!

Officer is wrong that you can only use the VWP once a year.

You can use the WVP multiple times in a year.

The VWP privileges can be revoked if a CBP officer believes you are abusing the VWP to defacto live in the US rather than visiting.

You can apply for a tourist visa. No guarantee that it will be granted.

If the tourist visa is denied, you also lose your VWP privelges.

Lot of wrong info.

You can certainly apply for a B2, my guess is that your chances of getting one are slim to nil.

Assuming you apply and do not get one then you have to update ESTA with your visa denied which probably will come back refused. Anecdotal evidence suggests it takes 6 to 12 months before it clears.

There is no time limit as to how long a visitor can theoretically stay in the US BUT there may well be issues seeking entry as a visitor is you are effectively living in the US.

The CBP officer may have been correct, depending on the conversation s/he had with you. It all depends on the declared purpose of your trip.

How long had it been since your last trip and what was the duration of your last trip?

If you stay for 80 days, leave the country only to return after two months, you may be further questioned.

Without being too nosy, can you elaborate a little more on the purpose of your trips?

You can apply for the b2 ... However, be aware that if it is denied (as many times they are especially for VWP countries as they tend to question why you need so much more time n the USA, more than what VWP grants you) then generally, you are no longer eligible to use the VWP once your ESTA is updated with the denial... So many times it backfires on you...

Many reports on here over the years of London swiftly denying B2 visitor visas. You've already been once this year. Now back until July. So it doesn't look like you would have strong ties to the UK, which must be presented in order for them to consider you need another 6 months.

Strong ties: own a home, have a full time job, enrolled in school, have lots of money to fund these long holidays....

If you are retired, draw a big pension, and have a very good reason why you need six additional months in the US...THEN maybe. If you are young, broke, unemployed, and have a girlfriend or boyfriend in the US, then probably not,

Hello,

Thank you all for your responses.

I have been travelling back to America to see my girlfriend. I had certain friends tell me not to mention her and certain friends tell me to.This time I mentioned her but they were more interested in my ties to UK than my American girlfriend. I have a flat in London and a job based in London, but I can do the job remotely from anywhere in the world.

I am planning to propose while I am here and was wondering what anyone can tell me about the process once she (hopefully) says yes. With regards to getting married, whether there is a fiance visa available before we get married? I know there is in the UK.

Again, any information would be most helpful.
