Good day again fellow VJ'ers. I have a question again about me and my 6 year old son's upcoming medical exam om May 14. Is it really required for the both of us to undergo tuberculin skin test even if both of us has not been in contact anywhere near people with TB? Ive becoming paranoid lately about the test coz even though we dont have the symptoms, im scared there will be an inconclusive results which will delay our time. Are there people exempted from having that test? I mean if we are healthy looking, is it possible that we wont be having that? Thank you for your responses, that will surely ease out my tension. :)

At least in Mexico the adult get an Xray of the chest and the child the skin test... everyone undergo them but chances are you dont have anything and if you do I think is better to know and recieve treatment than ignore it or even be contagious to others...

I love you Charles forever!!

There is nothing to worry about it. It's an easy procedure. If your skin has no reaction, (Redness or swelling) that's the end of it. It is a requirement and I dont think anybody is exempted. Just relax.... Good luck!

Its highly unlikely that your result will be inconclusive. You either have a reaction or you don't.

10-20 & 11-14-2007 = Phoned ImmOffs; "still pending."

12-11-2007 = 180 days; file is "between workstations, may be early Jan."; touches 12/11 & 12/12.

12-18-2007 = Call; file is with Division 9 ofcr. (bckgrnd check); e-prompt to shake it; touch.

12-19-2007 = NOA2 by e-mail & web, dated 12-18-07 (187 days; 201 per VJ); in mail 12/24/07.

04-29-2008 = Fiancee's 4-min. consular interview, 8:30 a.m.; much evidence brought but not allowed to be presented (consul: "More proof! Second interview! Bring your fiance!").

05-05-2008 = Infuriating $12 call to non-English-speaking consulate appointment-setter.

05-06-2008 = Better $12 call to English-speaker; "joint" interview date 6/30/08 (my selection).

06-30-2008 = Stokes Interrogations w/Ecuadorian (not USC); "wait 2 weeks; we'll mail her."

07-2008 = Daily calls to DOS: "currently processing"; 8/05 = Phoned consulate, got Section Chief; wrote him.

08-07-08 = E-mail from consulate, promising to issue visa "as soon as we get her passport" (on 8/12, per DHL).

Always refer to slec website when in doubt: http://www.slec.ph/#

  • Tuberculin Skin Test - Required for applicants 2-14 years of age
  • Chest X-ray (CXR) - Required for all adult applicants aged 15 and above, or children who had exposure to TB Cases or history of TB disease

Since you'll be going for medical with your kid, note that thursdays are not a good day to go there to give way for the TST analysis. May 14 is fine. Do read up on the reminders and notes from the website for other details. Don't worry too much. Everybody goes through this though. If anything is detected from your son's TST or your chest X-ray, just think that it's all for the better as TB can be potentially fatal.

Here's a good SLEC blog review by Ann for your reading pleasures: http://philippinefiancevisa.weebly.com/review.html

Stay healthy and all the best! :)

As an adult you will complete an x-ray for TB. Your child will have the skin test. Remember the skin test takes three days to complete so don't plan on a Thurs. or Friday exam as you will not be able to complete the skin test and you will be required to return thus extending your testing.

There is no exemption or getting around the test.

If you feel that you are clear then you possibly will pass the test with no concern. Relax.... you will do find.

You will have an x-ray, for your son they will do the skin test - medical for him will be three days. If nothing shows up on the x-ray then all will be fine, and for your son the skin test.

Thanks everyone for your reply. Our flight is on wednesday and will be arriving in manila at 10am so i guess we will go straight to st lukes for medical so that we still have time to wait for the tuberculin skin test result coz we will be flying back home on saturday. So i guess 2 1/2 days is enough already?

That should work, just depends what time they want you to come back on day 3 to read the skin test.
