Hi everyone! We received our visa and passport yesterday and my fiance is flying home this week. We're so excited but he's also nervous about going through immigration. It's his first time flying so that alone is a little nerve wracking. I told him all the documents he needs are 1) his passport with the K1 visa inside and 2) the sealed envelope. Am I missing anything??

I know port of entry wait times can widely vary between people, but I would love to hear your/your fiance's experience arriving in the USA for the first time. How long did it take you to get through immigration? Did the officers ask you any questions or just go through the packet? Did you miss any flights because of wait times?

Thank you!

Yes, all you need is your passport with K-1 visa in it and the sealed envelope, so do not pack it away in your checked luggage.

Check the POE reviews here on VJ for your particular POE.

~ Moved from K-1 Process to Working & Traveling During US Immigration - topic is travel/entering US with K-1 visa ~

I arrived in Dallas Fort Worth around 8:30am.

Luckily line wasn't busy. Going through

Immigration was no problem. After that I was

Taken to another room and waited 15 min or so

Until I was given my passport back.

After getting off the airplane and unyil I was admitted

Entry, it only took like 30 min.

Good luck!!

My wife didn't have any problems, she cruised right through. So much so that she was out of Arrivals before I got there because I was stuck in traffic.

Shouldn't be any problems as long as the paperwork is in order and the packet is unopened.

He won't receive scrutiny like if he were coming here on a visitor visa. He's coming to immigrate here and has the proper visa for that purpose.

That's very true, I constantly remind him that we have nothing to hide and the approved visa is in our hands. It's just a matter of remaining calm and having the documents prepared (and unopened!) He got nervous as soon as he found out that the officers have the final decision of whether he can enter the USA or not. I think he fears they will deny him just because they're not in a good mood that day and for no apparent reason.

I went through POE with my K1 visa just as easily as I did when I travelled to the states under the visa waiver program. Just waited in line with

everyone else, handed him my packet, which he had a quick look through, did my photo/fingerprints and just casually let me go.
