Hello all

After everybody's help on here I now have a interview date set for the 9th of april.

Now as I prepare for that one of my best friends is working and living in Moscow and has been pestering me to visit before he leaves in June.

In the past I have been wary of saying yes due to Russia's track record etc but promised I would come if I could.

However since the whole Crimea situation i have told my friend that there is no chance I could visit as tensions between the US and Russia have got worse.

My question for you guys is in your opinion would it affect me to visit there i.e. will it affect my k1 visa.

I would like to go to Russia to say I have been there but not at the expense of hurting my visa chances if that was the case.

My friend says its not the cold war any more and Americans work with him etc but as I'm applying to be an immigrant to America maybe they would judge or punish me for going, I just don't know?

Also you need a visa to go there to visit can you have a tourist visa for there will applying for a k1 visa etc?

Would be great if someone could help as I'm stuck between two groups saying two different things! Would be great to say to both this is the truth etc and I cant ask at my interview 'oh hey are you guys okay if i visit Russia, i hate what the doing i just want to visit please don't rule that against me'

Thanks for reading or replying

I traveled to Russia to visit my dad while my K-1 was pending. I actually got my I-129F approved while I was there and I did not have any problems at the interview later on. You can have a tourist visa for Russia while applying for K-1. It won't affect you in any way. Good luck for you interview!

So when I fly to America with my green card going to Russia on a tourist visa will not affect me at all?

A K-1 is not a greencard. Americans are allowed to travel to Russia. You won't be American but even if you were it would not matter.

People from Cuba come and move to the US and it is illegal for Americans to go to Cuba. Yet it doesn't bar them their own immigration entry.

If you go to Russia and sign up for the army, then you might have problems, but otherwise it will not matter one whit.

AOS for my husband

How are you getting a GC? Your timeline says K1?

“If you know the enemy and know yourself, you need not fear the result of a hundred battles. If you know yourself but not the enemy, for every victory gained you will also suffer a defeat. If you know neither the enemy nor yourself, you will succumb in every battle.”
