  1. 1. If global warming is really causing a surge in pink salmon in Asia and Africa...

    • I'm glad. People who live in Asia and Africa could use a cheap and plentiful source of protein.
    • I'm appalled. I like to go around pretending I care about the environment but really, I just want to ensure the dominance of the West. What better way to do that than asking the East to reduce emissions after the West has already industrialized?

(Phys.org) —A pair of researchers, one with the University of Alaska, the other with Independent, Auke Bay are suggesting in a paper they've had printed in Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences, that global warming is partially responsible for large increases in pink salmon populations in North America and Asia. Alan Springer and Gus van Vliet claim that rising ocean temperatures are at least partly to blame for increased pink salmon populations due to an increase in the amount of available food.

...

Springer and Vliet suggest that pink salmon swimming in warmer water during their formative years are exposed to more food (zooplankton, small fish and squid, etc.) which allows them to eat more, and then later, to produce more offspring. It leads to more fish in the sea.

...

Pink salmon populations have been rising since the 1970's, roughly the same time frame as global warming—so much so that some have begun suggesting that it's a problem easily solved by allowing fishermen to catch more.

There is simply no downside to more fish in the third world. Sure, a privileged Westerner may look down his or her nose at a less desirable species but that means little to the starving masses of the third world.

Of course, no one really thinks Western environfascists care about the third world except in word.

Hey, my wife loves the small tilapia they sell at the supermarkets here, because most Asians don't waste protein like us westerners do. They are like three to five dollars each, and she gets three meals out of each one.

Sudden population explosions are not always a good thing. It really depends on the consequences up and down the food chain. I think most people understand that in the natural world, diversity is actually a good thing. Some however, always think that diversity is bad and should be eradicated.

Refusing to use the spellchick!

I have put you on ignore. No really, I have, but you are still ruining my enjoyment of this site. .

My wife is the best at making thrifty foodstuffs. We can eat for weeks on pennies and dustbunnies! She can make 10 meals from one potato, and 20 meals from one anchovy. We also slice a bean for Christmas dinner. Yum! She eats so little because she is so thin. One bite of air fills her right up!
