It's the logical fallacy known as "appeal to authority."

AOS for my husband
8/17/10: INTERVIEW DAY (day 123) APPROVED!!

ROC:
5/23/12: Sent out package
2/06/13: APPROVED!

They made a mistake, they do not have to admit to it, they do not want to admit to it.

Your tax dollars at work.

“If you know the enemy and know yourself, you need not fear the result of a hundred battles. If you know yourself but not the enemy, for every victory gained you will also suffer a defeat. If you know neither the enemy nor yourself, you will succumb in every battle.”

Yes, they all but came out and said just that. It would create more work for them, as well as be an embarrassment and they don't have to do it, so they won't - well, they used the word "can't".

They essentially said, "sir, please, why don't you just make all of our lives easier and find a joint sponsor."

In any case, it is now a moot point since we have found a joint sponsor.

The aggravation is that we'll have to be apart for who knows how long since my wife can't enter the country any more until this gets squared away.

Of course that's logical. The consulate has the power to easily change its decision (if it was wrong) but for some reason, they are not......could be because....they were right. What 'work?' All that needs to be done is bring up the computer file, the paper file, switch 'denied 221g' to approved, put in a memo as to why, and go on down the road...total elapsed time...less than 10 minutes, 15 at the outside.

So why do they not do it?

It is interesting that Señor Troll has sufficient knowledge of the process to know that it was a 221g denial and to know the consular process required to turn the decision around. Who might this person be?

Since I am not knowledgeable of specific consular processes I have to go by what they told me. All I do know is what I read in the documentation/regulations. According to those regulations, I easily qualify.

If the official had even just looked at my assets and denied because they were insufficient in some way, that would be one thing but to deny without even looking at the documentation is bizarre.

I am curious why Sr. Troll suspects they were "right"? Does he think I am lying, or I don't really have the assets, or what?

Señor Troll is apparently a former low level consulate worker. Thus he thinks he knows all, and the COs are perfect. I think he got burnt out and sees fraud everywhere he goes.

Which is odd when you think about it, I worked many years in Insurance so I know how screwed up that is.

If you had worked in a Governmental office how could you not notice what goes on?

“If you know the enemy and know yourself, you need not fear the result of a hundred battles. If you know yourself but not the enemy, for every victory gained you will also suffer a defeat. If you know neither the enemy nor yourself, you will succumb in every battle.”

I have seen plenty of cases that suggest this is not a given.

You have not yet answered why you think they were right?

“If you know the enemy and know yourself, you need not fear the result of a hundred battles. If you know yourself but not the enemy, for every victory gained you will also suffer a defeat. If you know neither the enemy nor yourself, you will succumb in every battle.”
