Hi Vj member i would like to ask about whats the difference about Co sponsor and sponsor for affidavit of support for a friend of mine his wife cant support him because of her income so whats they should do in order to submit that AoS in order to be accepted in NVC so whats the form that need to be submit in to some one else to support him

The petitioner is always the primary sponsor regardless of income (even if it's $0); if the primary sponsor's income is insufficient then they require a co-sponsor / joint sponsor LPR or US citizen who can meet the requirements.

I believe the form you are going to need is the I-864 for a co-sponsor. Again, just my opinion, since your "significant other" lives in a high risk country for visa denials, it might be in your best interest to get a co-sponsor that is part of your immediate family. For some reason find a co-sponsor that is part of the family has helped. Please don't let anyone tell you that co-sponsors are either not accepted or petitioners that have co-sponsors will be denied. Just do what you have to do, prepare the petition correctly, and hope for the best. But, I am not a rocket scientist like some people on this forum claim to be.

FYI on semantics, when referring to an I-864, if you are not the primary sponsor, then joint sponsor would be the proper term.

January 28, 2014: Production of new Green Card ordered

February 3, 2014: New Green Card received; done with USCIS until fall of 2023*

December 18, 2023:  Filed I-90 to renew Green Card

December 21, 2023:  Production of new Green Card ordered - will be seeing USCIS again every 10 years for renewal

July 23, 2025:  Filed N-400 online
