Hi All, although its still early days for my K1 as i am still awaiting NOA2 i wanted to know if I can get the Medical and police background check pre done now in order to save time later as we are on a bit of a tight deadline. Anything I can get predone now to save time I would like to do. In addition to these two things is there anything else we can pre do now to save time later?

we prepared the following before we got the NOA2:

- Get Birth Certificate petitioner

- Make a few us passport sized pictures of petitioner (depending on the country you need some for the embassy and for the medical)
- Get Police Record of petitioner
- Collect evidence of Relationship (Photos, Plane tickets, Decaration of meeting in person, Loveletters, etc)
- Bank Statements, Employer Statement, Tax Statement of usc
- Vaccination Record of petitioner ( I had to do the required vaccination before the medical)
- Medical Appointment (I asked if they need my Case number and they said no)

Maybe depends on the embassy/country and the length of the process (maybe some documents are not valid forever)

Wow thats great so you can basically get everything before hand thats great thanks for that info. I belive the Irish embassy the police records are fine as long as they are with 12 months from the petition so im going to go get them immediately. Medical is expensive but I will get that predone aswell.

On the subject of police clearance, Although I am now living in Ireland, I was in the UK on and off for 3 years while I attended University. Does this mean I need a UK police check as well as Irish one?

As long as it doesn't take very long, I guess you are fine with collecting these things in advance. I waited for the original I-134 form from the embassy since the one I found on the internet seemed old (there was a date on top right on every form so far). Also make sure that your passport pictures are not older than 6 month at the date of your interview and update your "Evidence of Relationship"-Folder right before the Interview.

Ask de doctor if you can schedule an appointment without noa2 before you do so. The doctor can also tell you if you have to get the vaccinations in advance.

I would advise against getting anything done ahead of time until you have the NOA2. You will have plenty of time between getting that notification and actually needing the documents for the interview. Your petition will have to be shipped to NVC, processed there, then shipped to the Embassy and processed there. In all these steps post-NOA2 you have 3, 4 weeks (if not more) to complete all the necessary steps and gather the necessary documents.

The reason why I suggest this is that getting the NOA2 is the step that can take the longest time. You maybe be approved tomorrow, you maybe be approved 6 months from now. You may get an RFE. So many things can happen, and you risk the chance of some of your paperwork expiring and having to do it again.

Also, I've seen people say the visa expiration date is set by the medical date, I've seen others say they're not related. So, bear that in mind as well.

This is what we're in the process of doing (also using the Dublin embassy):

~Police certificate from both Ireland and South Africa (his home country. That one is supposed to take months)

~vaccination records for him from SA and for his son from his son's doctor in Ireland

~My information for the AOS he'll need for the interview (happily, I will be hand delivering this to him in April!)

~starting to go through emails, texts, receipts, letters, pictures, etc for the "this is our bona fide relationship" requirement :)

~he's filling out the documents ahead of time that require all his previous addresses, etc.

He's leaving the medical until he has word from the embassy. While he's here visiting in April, we're getting passport pics taken at the local post office.

I would love to have an answer to your police certificate for the UK, as I have that same question. We're about a month behind you. I got our NOA1 on the 7th of Feb. Good luck!

Tina

I would get the police certificate from the UK, if you lived there they may ask for it and no reason to get a delay because of not having it

Don't get anything done ahead of time.

There's no need rushing.

The embassy gives you the time to do all what you need to. ( several weeks)

You risk having things getting expiring while still in the process cuz there's lot of "unforeseen" waiting times especially at the level of the embassy.

You still have a long way to go.

I made that mistake when I did my medicals as soon as NVC told me they've shipped my package to my country. The Embassy took 4weeks to call me and gave me 8weeks to prepare for my interview when they called me.

That's already 3months of my medicals gone! without any questions.

I also had to do my police record 2times before my interview becuz the first one got expired. In my country, the police record is only good for 3months.

now make your choice.
