Timeline

We arrived 30 minutes before our appointment. I believe there were about 3-4 AOS couples/families before us. Had to wait, and were let inside about 15 minutes later than our scheduled appointment, so the overall wait time was about 40-45 minutes. The immigration officer was a woman in her 50s, didn't really smile when we met. Went inside her office, swore an oath and then she asked us to put anything that we brought in on her table. We had 3 photoalbums, plus a scrapbook. The biggest concern was with an expandable file that contained all of our docs. I think we overdid it - I spent the whole evening on Sunday just to organize this folder. Here is the photo of a similar file that we had:

http://www.amazon.com/Wilson-Jones-ColorLife-Expanding-WCCC7117A-BL/dp/B00006ICDC/ref=pd_sim_op_5?ie=UTF8&refRID=06EX433N9J0VSDE8WNCA

So, every compartment of the file contained a set of documents. Each document was paper clipped to its copy. I thought that maybe we will take some stuff out if our Io asks us for supporting evidence. Unfortunately, the officer asked us to get everything out. Boy, that was a mess. Everything mixed up in a second. She found our passports with the copies and set them aside.

After that, the IO proceeded to go through our albums. She didn't ask us a question. At some time when she turned a page, I noticed there was a random empty page and chuckled. The IO asked me what's wrong, and I explained that to her. She didn't seem to pay attention and continued turning pages.

The IO then proceeded to asking questions. Nothing really special: DOB, in what city we were born, how we met and our first date, when we got married, how we celebrated, how many people were there, if we have the lease with us, how much is the rent, where do we work, etc. Then, she started asking me yes/no questions from the i-485.

At the end, she asked us if we had any questions. I asked how soon we should hear from USCIS, she said it will take up to 120 days to receive a response, but we should expect the decision sooner. She also said that everything looks good.

Last night both cases for i-485 and i-130 went back to Initial Review stage. Today I received a tracking for the EAD card.

Thanks for sharing the Federal Plaza experience! I hope you get approved asap.

SO I had my interview yesterday, it was schedule for 315, since i like to be on time for everything, i got there 45 min early, came 330 the room was empty everyone was called, so some guy ask us if we had an appt and what time, so i think they forgot about us. 5 minutes later this woman come out and call our name, she didnt make any eye contact, so i got worried. First we had to swear an oath to tell the truth, then she asked my husband my name and DOB and asked my parents name.. after that she went over my application and went over my first came coming here, she asked to see my I94, but i told her i didnt have but my passport was stamped with both of my entry, she said thank you and think that was enough. So after she asked since we sent application if we had anything else to ADD than we showed Registration of boat we bought, Car insurance, and other things we brought and then she said that i had sent few pics if i had more, so i gave to her ( i made few collages of few events ) she didnt look at them all.. She asked if she could make copies, i told her she could keep them all, that i had the collage for them, I showed her my wedding album she didnt finish looking at that either, then she said that we made a good couple, and that she was going to make copies of our IDs and when she came back she said i should receive my green card within 4 weeks and explained the process of ROC and becoming citizen, i told her i wanted to change my name to his last name, so she crossed off my last name and told me that my green card would have his last time. The paper that seh gave us said pending review, and i have not received any email changing status yet! Granted we left the building after 430.. so i am hoping i am getting something soon, cuz i am getting worried.

hope my experience helped!

We don't have an interview date yet. Mailed to Chicago on Feb 4th and then sent to Missouri. Local office is Washington, D.C. Anyhow, all the info we have for the green card is the generic "address has been changed" message. Anyone know if the interview date will be set shortly? We are leaving the country in late August for a huge wedding ceremony so I'm a little bit worried. Seems to be taking longer than most people

On the USCIS website it says the Washington DC field office is only up to mid-October filers for the I-485. They seem to be one of the more backlogged offices unfortunately :/
