Hi everyone,

I was wondering if anyone had any magical wisdom when it comes to the EAD wait. At the moment my I-485 and I765 are being processed, I filed them both just under three months ago and I had my biometrics on the 4th feb. I know all too well that this entire process is about waiting and I have been very patient these past long unemployed 3 months.

However- I have been offered an AMAZING job and they want me to start asap, has anyone had a similar experience and was there ANYTHING that could possibly aid speed the process up? get a SSN? Get something that says the permit is on the way to give to my employer in good faith?

I am so frustrated and anxious and as usual- no one on the telephone tells you anything except the lines they are fed from an automated system.

Sorry if this is a bit of a rant, just very stressed out over this :(

Thank you!!

Thanks for the advice guys,

today I went down to the federal office in NYC and after booking an appointment, the manager then told me that they could not do anything to expedite my EAD in that office and that the only way to do so is to write a letter to the office which your I785 is being processed with the job offer letter and hope for the best.

I am going to give it a go- but yet again, another disheartening day at the immigration 'help' service where no one in the building can actually help.... joy!

keep swimming!

Did you call USCIS as suggested? Once you request an expedite via phone they will email you a request for supporting evidence (the letter from the employer) with a fax to send it to, for me that email came the day after I requested an expedite (that is still pending).

I shall call them tomorrow- smoke signals next.

A quick question about getting a Social Security number- does it come with the EAD? or will I have to get that separately from their office?

Thanks a million guys x

It is separate, you need to fill out this form and take it to your local SS office once you get your EAD - http://www.ssa.gov/online/ss-5.pdf

You can also request assistance from your congressional representative's office. This is routine for them. http://www.house.gov/representatives/find/

more thank you's!

I phoned and received an email for evidence which I faxed today- did you say your permit was still pending Jason? Have they given you any idea of a time frame?

I never thought of going through a congress office- next point of call if I don't hear back.

Happy Valentines day eveyone- unemployed and frustrated- but have my better half beside me- a dramatic improvement since last year :)

Still pending so I am now on a forced leave of absence without pay, I called USCIS today and waited over an hour for a Tier 2 IO just to tell me what I already knew and that he had no way of telling how long it would take the NBC to process the expedite except to say that it is standard for them to take up to 45 days to do so, which is ridiculous as then my 90 days would be up already. I also called out congresswoman's office to followup on my request but that was of no help as they take 2 - 6 weeks to act on such cases, which is not the case for the majority of other cases I've read about where they have had a same day turnaround and having their EAD printed that night.

It is just so frustrating doing the right thing and being punished for it when you see so many others that have overstayed or have worked illegally that are having such things forgiven when AOS so I am trying to stay away from those threads at the moment.
