Hello,

I've received my I-130 approval notice (case status) last Thursday January 30, but so far NO hard copy has arrived.

In case I do not get NOA2, is there a way to call NVC using the receipt number from NOA1.

Please help!

Thanks,

Lukiduki

My case was received at NVC on Jan 21 as well. I'm calling them daily, but based on other members' timelines, I'm not really expecting any good news for another week or two. Still, they say 10-20 business days, and we're now at the 10 business day mark, so they'll be hearing from me regularly smile.png

Same date here - NVC received my case Jan 21st. I called them yesterday and same story - 10-20 business days, so hopefully in a couple of weeks.

NOA1 receipt number = NOA2 receipt number

Your number doesn't change at all at USCIS.

Thanks Saylin,

Am I right to understand that,

- I do not depend of any number written in the NOA2 hard copy to call NVC and ask for my case and IIN #?

I do not need the hard copy at all.

Thanks

Nope, you don't technically need the hard copy. It's just for your own records.

Hi,

You can use this link for the details.

http://www.irs.gov/Individuals/International-Taxpayers/U.S.-Citizens-and-Resident-Aliens-Abroad---Nonresident-Alien-Spouse

Generally speaking, you have following options:

- File married but separate - no issues with SSN or TIN

- After filing above you can file a modification - i think you have three years to modify your tax return. By this time you'll have a SSN for your spouse

- File married and joint - you'll have to apply for TIN

http://www.irs.gov/Individuals/International-Taxpayers/Taxpayer-Identification-Numbers-(TIN)

- There are some head of household options but I am not familiar enough with it to comment.

Sorry I misunderstood your question-

In turbotax you have the option to directly input some of the information in the form format. I haven't tried to do it with this specific issue, but you can give it a shot.. Under the 'View' menu option click on Forms rather than step-by-step. Click on the Info Wks and try to modify the SSN to 'NA' or 'unavailable'

Hope this helps.

Thank you! I see how to open the form but I believe it still only allows numerical entries. I'll try giving TurboTax a call tomorrow and see what I can do.

I really appreciate all the advice from everyone who quoted.

Again, I repeat, the first year, you won't be able to file electronically. You have to do it on paper.

when sending in W7 for ITIN, tax returns are mailed with it. Do we send just federal with it, or does state go with it to?? If not then I have to wait to get ITIN to file state taxes. Tax system is weird in the states compared to ours, I over looked this part as I did not realize they had to be sent to different places, in Canada we just file and send to same address. Getting in a little ####### from the hubby on this, so any help would be appreciated. Thanks

hi xprecious32 when I filed for ITIN for my husband we only include the federal returns with the W7. the state returns are sent to the state, each state has different requirements. FYI my state processed my return as single and after the federal processed our return as married I had to contact the state for them to adjust their records.

I see you're in Massachusetts, check out this site for more info http://www.mass.gov/dor/

That's absolutely not an excuse whatsoever. Please go read the bottom of post 2 about filing taxes.

As for your second question, I'm assuming you claim your daughter on your taxes? If so, fill out part 5 as the following:

1. 1

2. 1

3. 0

4. 1

5-7. 0

8. 3
