I have looked through the required documents needed for my fiance K-1 visa and no where does it state that a CENOMAR nor an NBI clearance is needed. Why is that or where is that requirement stated?

the NBI Clearance and CENOMAR are both indicated in the official instructions from USEM.

10-20 & 11-14-2007 = Phoned ImmOffs; "still pending."

12-11-2007 = 180 days; file is "between workstations, may be early Jan."; touches 12/11 & 12/12.

12-18-2007 = Call; file is with Division 9 ofcr. (bckgrnd check); e-prompt to shake it; touch.

12-19-2007 = NOA2 by e-mail & web, dated 12-18-07 (187 days; 201 per VJ); in mail 12/24/07.

01-09-2008 = File from USCIS to NVC, 1-4-08; NVC creates file, 1/15/08; to consulate 1/16/08.

04-29-2008 = Fiancee's 4-min. consular interview, 8:30 a.m.; much evidence brought but not allowed to be presented (consul: "More proof! Second interview! Bring your fiance!").

05-05-2008 = Infuriating $12 call to non-English-speaking consulate appointment-setter.

05-06-2008 = Better $12 call to English-speaker; "joint" interview date 6/30/08 (my selection).

06-30-2008 = Stokes Interrogations w/Ecuadorian (not USC); "wait 2 weeks; we'll mail her."

07-2008 = Daily calls to DOS: "currently processing"; 8/05 = Phoned consulate, got Section Chief; wrote him.

08-07-08 = E-mail from consulate, promising to issue visa "as soon as we get her passport" (on 8/12, per DHL).

08-27-08 = Phoned consulate (they "couldn't find" our file); visa DHL'd 8/28; in hand 9/1; through POE on 10/9 with NO hassles(!).

Both are important requirements needed to be brought by the K1 beneficiary to his/her interview at US Embassy Manila.

Really? Did you read item "d" and item "j" below that on page 2 of the embassy instructions letter?

d. NBI CLEARANCE (Green Form). Applicants aged 16 years and older must have a valid Record
Clearance (for travel abroad purposes) from the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI). Clearances should
be in the applicant’s current name, birth certificate name, maiden name and any aliases or nicknames used,
including different spellings you have used of those names. An official letter of explanation from the
NBI is required for any notation of “No criminal record” or "No pending case”. For immigration
purposes, an NBI clearance is valid for one (1) year from the date it was issued. The NBI website is
j. CERTIFICATE OF NO MARRIAGE RECORD (CENOMAR). If you have never contracted marriage,
a CENOMAR (Singleness) issued by the National Statistics Office (NSO) and printed on NSO security
paper should be submitted. You may call the NSO Information Center at 02-737-1111 to inquire on
securing a CENOMAR or visit their website at

Check the requirements again. Police clearance = NBI clearance headbonk.gif:no:

That is totally incorrect

We have not yet applied for the visa and have not recieved the embassy letter so I hadn't seen the requirement. I will make sure she has them when she goes to the embassy for the interview. Thanks to all that responded.

You don't receive that letter from the embassy, it is online only.

Follow the flashing arrow below for details.

Both are needed in the US embassy in Manila interview. You have to look hard enough, Persis dear. Or maybe you were reading on K-1 blogs referencing a different country's US embassy. Each country has specific list of requirements. The US embassy in Manila's site and Hank's link are a very useful resource.

Hei! I just want to ask if NBI CLEARANCE and NBI POLICE CERTICATE are different?

I've sent my Nbi clearance last Dec 27,and I've called NVC today and they told me over the phone that my NBI clearance we're wrong and not accepted.I'm quite confused about that two...please help me.

I've sent the NBI CLEARANCE in green card annotated with travel abroad with my picture and thumbmarks. Thanks in advance

@dimples30

The green NBI clearance is sufficient if you lived and worked in the Philippines your whole life. The NBI clearance is only valid within 1 year from date of issuance.

If you lived and/or worked abroad (outside the Philippines) for 12 months or more, you need to get a Police Clearance/Certificate from that foreign country.

It doesn't hurt to ask why your NBI clearance is not accepted, sis.

When did you get your clearance, by the way? If it is recent, the only reason I can think of is that they are fussing over the NBI clearance purpose. I requested mine to be for "US Visa", but I read somewhere here that for "for travel abroad" is also acceptable.
