Hi there guys,

Quick question in regards to the K1 affidavit of support. Although various sites and other bloggers have stated that this is one thing the your fiancé has to send to you before your interview in the U.S. embassy.

However can I as the beneficiary not the petitioner file for a affidavit of support as i intend to support myself in America. As my fiancé is a recent collage graduate she doesn't have a particularly great income and relies on her family for money. Or should my fiancé just submit it?

Many thanks for your help.

No, this has to be from the petitioner. The petitioner can use a co-sponsor. You, as a non native US person cannot sponsor yourself based on a job. You can though show funds and sponsor yourself. I don't know how much the funds have to be. But, maybe someone else will come along with a more experienced outlook towards your situation. So, good luck!

I do not know what consulate you will go through because you have no timeline filled in. The only consulate I know of that accepts self-sponsorship is London. However, when it comes time for the I-864 later after you are married and filing for AOS, that will not work. The USC petitioner must be the primary sponsor. If they do not meet the requirements, then they can use a co-sponsor for the I-134(if your consulate allows them), and a joint sponsor for the I-864 when you file for AOS.

I self sponsored the K1.

YMMV, probably will.

Hi Guys, yeah I live in London so will be going to the US embassy in London.

So just to clarify when filling out the I-134 (affidavit of support) for the interview do I fill it out for myself and just take a copy of a statement of my account?

This page is still online and able to be viewed, However I am not sure it is still linked through the London Embassy site any longer. At least I could not find it in a search of their site. It does come up on Google though. http://london.usembassy.gov/faffidavit.html

What's the ideal figure it should be? And what type of financial proof would be adequate?

You can ask them what the current number is, Bank Statement would be the most obvious.

Boiler,

Do you know the best way to email this question ? I have used the contact us link on the London embassy page with no replies ??

Do you have a email address that works as I wish to find out this minimum too.

Thanks

Paul

When I did mine I thought it was the normal calculation, I wondered why he glanced and took it no further at the data I had brought.

I later found out it was a lot less, seems akin to a figure that would be good for a 90 day stay, which seems logical if you think about it.

I know others have reported getting a number from the Consulate.

If you are more than comfortable I would not worry about it. Like $10k plus.

I will have $10k+ in a UK account when I go to meeting ;-)

Plus a co sponsor signed I-134 just in case.

Then you are covered either way. If you find out the current number do update us.

Hopefully somebody who has done it more recently will comment.

I took the I 134 and a lot of paperwork backing up my assets, the later was wasted.
