Visiting US while waiting on NOA2- How long can I stay?

I have a B1/B2 visa and I entered the USA on December 25th, 2013 and should have returned to Jamaica on January 4th. When asked at immigration who I was visiting I told the truth that I was visiting family. He asked whose house I would be staying and I told him my mom-in-law. I also said I would be visiting my sister in another state (which I did). He didn't ask anything else and I did not volunteer any info that I wasn't asked. I did have work to go back to but i had to formally push them back for this semester ( I teach).

My husband has ended up taking a new job and I stayed to find a new place and help him settle in as he would not have the time to do the legwork. I was given 6 months in the USA and while I do not plan to spend the 6 months or adjust status, is there problem with spending 8-12 weeks here while our paperwork is being processed?

Will this come back to haunt me when I go for the the interview.

Thanks...I asked because I wonder if the length of time spent in the USA counts against you like it does when you are renewing a B1/B2 visa. Even though you are given 6 months, I KNOW of persons who have lost their visas because they spent 3-4 months in the USA and they were deemed to have spent too long in the country. Just trying to be on the right side of US immigration

As long as you are within the timeframe on I-94, you are OK. Double check your dates, as we had problems with MIL's I-94 and had to go to CBP office to fix it. She still got six months, but it was incorrect in the system.
