Every military wife has to face this at some point..when husband is going away for 9 month or even more...what to do and how to deal with the separation?

My husband had been to Kuwait for 9 month and it was not great for me, really don't want to be separated from him again in the future! :(

I don't think anyone wants to be separated for that long. We have a friend who is currently deployed and due back in April. His wife has done fairly well because she works and has a kiddo but i think it's still rather hard on them. Are there any military resources you can look into?

Hi, thank you for the reply. I am currently working too and my husband just went on a six month training in Arizona while I am in Georgia. I don't really know any military resources..if you can share any useful information, will be very appreciated!

Wow, as a service member I can't believe that so many people are unaware of all the support families of service members are entitled to. As a until recently single person, I can't think of how many hours I've sat thru briefings on all the support the married people are offered. Every base should have some sort of "Family Support Group" that offers counseling, financial advisors, etc. If nothing else the base chaplains are another place to start or every unit should have some sort of family liaison. Remember, the first step is asking the question.

Depends on your location. From where I live there's no nearby "Support Group" here for families with loved ones deployed. So pretty much I just joined support groups online like forums of militarysos, japanbases (as my husband is deployed in Japan), etc.

Back to the OP..

What branch is your husband in? I can see your AOS is still pending. Have you tried calling USCIS to expedite your case? If your husband is land-based in Kuwait, you may opt to visit him during his 9-month deployment there once you got your AP or AOS approval. Meanwhile, I can see you're working, just stay focused on your work to keep yourself busy, and importantly, never lose communication with your husband. I talk to my husband everyday while he's in Japan over the phone or Skype. You can also browse Military Support group online too like militarysos.com, militaryspouse.com etc. and talk to spouse who's same situation as you.

Hi Thank you April and Thank you Haggarda for your helpful information and support.

I currently have AOS pending with USCIS for two years conditional GC and I am going on the interview by myself this 23th (as the officer at local officer told me I could). My husband is in the army and he was deployed to Kuwaitt for 9 month last year (which also made us to have find sponsor since his 9 month payment cannot be counted on W2..)

Now he just started a UAV school training in AZ, Fort Huachuca and it can be from 6 month to a year. I have a stable job in Georgia which I cannot really just give up. So what we do everyday of course is trying our best to communicate. I' m sure there is some sort of military family counseling on the base however there isn't any in Atlanta. I think what I will do is to join online community as well.

Thank you again!

The hardest part is the first couple of months, specially if you're long at a longtime deployment or training. The easiest way to deal with it is go with the flow. Don't force communication because they have to focus on training and deployment. It gets a lot easier once you find your own comfortable routine and flow. Be as zen as possible about it. I know there will be times where you just can't help but think about how easier it would be if he was here, but imagine how much harder it would be if you were going through this as his girlfriend or fiancée, half way around the world.

Tell me about it! My husband deployed shortly after I came to the US so I didn't even get my driver license. I try always to stay busy but not knowing anybody here and living in a really small city does not help at all sad.png At least now all the big holidays are gone and we're halfway there.
