I was wondering the very same. With the lack of current appointments coupled with the possibility of only getting a cancellation

I believe this is the way to go so you can jump right into your interview.

I thought the limit is 6 months but I could be wrong. I don't think 3 months is unreasonable with the current backlog.

Seems you have asked this before in another posting... anyway.

For Manila:

You can do the medical early but there is a down side to this, the visa validity is tied to the date of the medical, so if you do the medical 3 months early you will have "burned" 3 months of the visa validity before even attending the interview. Just be aware you will have limited time after the visa is issued to enter the USA.

Put another way.... you only have 6 months (180 days, actually) to enter the US before your visa expires. And the start date of this timer is the day your medical is complete. Personally, I'd push the medical back a bit, like a month from the interview.

I did my medical last week, haven't gotten my interview date yet. Probably have an interview date for feb. I am planning to travel in march so I don't mind doing it right now. I think it all depends on how soon you want to travel and if your medical will have any issue that will drag your interview date later on.

True. But right now, the open appointments are in April from what I have read.

Yes that is true. I scheduled our interview today and the earliest they had was April 24th. I don't understand why they are so booked up. From what I have seen in the past you could usually get an interview about 1 month after you had you case number. I am hoping to get something earlier but not too hopeful, too many people are in the same situation.

Hello everyone, my fiance just finished her medical exam at St. Lukes on Dec. 18, 2013 thinking that she would be able to interview in manila January, 2014, but when she went to book an appointment the first available date was April 10, 2014. How does this affect her? if it goes over the 6 month period, do she have to get another medical exam before she leaves?

One more question, initially the USCIS sent me the I 797 notice of action stating that the approval notice is valid from 11/01/2013 to 2/28/14. But the first available appointment like i said is APril 10 2014. Does that matter?

Man I am stressed!

Don't stress ;)

1st - the petition validity will be extended by the embassy up to a year so no worries there.

2nd - The visa expiration date will be (roughly, can vary a few days) 6 months after the medical date, so when your fiancee receives her visa she will only have, at best, 2 months to enter the USA before the visa expires. Pay close attention to this, there was a couple a few years back that screwed the pooch on this one and she hadn't left the Phils in time ... too much fun for them after that oops.

Thanks Hank. Is there any way to get an earlier appointment or are we stuck with that late appointment date.

Keep logging into your account and checking the lower left side for earliest available date. If something shows up earlier and you want it, don't hesitate as it will disappear quickly. Remember you can only reschedule twice without penalty, after that you will have to pay a new visa fee.

Is the expiration date of her medical exam found on the top right corner of the vaccinatino record that was given to her? it states that the expiration date is 08/31/14. Thank you for all the help!

That would be pretty close, they say the medical is good for one year, so they must go by the month it was completed in regards to that. But for the visa they go by the exact medical date.
