Man arrested for plotting to blow up Kansas airport

Authorities have arrested a man who was plotting to blow up the Mid-Continent Airport in Wichita, Kansas, with a carload of explosives, officials said on Friday.

The 58-year-old aviation technician intended to die a martyr in the bombing, said US District Attorney for Kansas Barry Grissom in a press conference.

The charges against the man, identified as 58-year-old Terry Lee Loewen, included an attempt to use a weapon of mass destruction.

Loewen, who worked as an avionics technician at the airport, was arrested this morning on the airport’s tarmac with a vehicle he thought contained explosives. U.S. Attorney for Kansas Barry Grissom said the man had been under surveillance since earlier this year and had been given inert explosives by authorities during the investigation.

“He was resolved to commit an act of violent jihad against the United States,” Grissom said.

Grissom said the man faced three federal charges, among them the use of a weapon of mass destruction, attempting to damage by means of an explosive, and providing material support and resources to foreign terrorists, a Yemen-based group known as AQAP. If convicted, he faces life in prison.

I know that many of you want to restrict our constitutional rights...just a little. Like wanting to ban assault rifles, handguns, lead bullets, self defense, etc. What if we just banned Islam? Just Islam. I mean I really don't want to infringe on your right to freedom of religion but clearly some religions need to be eliminated. Just some of them. I mean you could still believe in God and stuff. No one wants to take away ALL your religions, just the bad ones. I know, it would not fix all terrorism, but it would be a start. A step in the right direction

Wouldn't we all be safer if we surrendered just a little of our freedom to prevent the terrorists from winning?
