Hi VJers,

My fiancé is arriving on Dec 27 (so excited! ).. POE is LA, Cali.. I will be meeting him there.. For those who have gone thru LA as POE, how was your experience?? Any tips??

One tip I would like to share...is to be honest with the customs declaration...like when I had my point of entries at lax for the several trips I had before...I always bring pastries such as piaya, barquillos, coco crunch cereals,etc...with my previous trips I would tick no on the food part, then the custom officer asked, no food?, I said just pastries, he said pastries are food so I was directed to the X-ray machines two times and they opened my luggages, and my heart was throbbing cause I was afraid they might charge me with misrepresentation and fine me...well nothing happened but the hassle of the time delay and the lifting of the luggages and packing ur stuff.

So last September 2013 when I entered Lax with K1 visa , I ticked yes to the food of the customs declaration form...I was asked by the customs what food I said pastries, he said no chicharon, no maggi Sarap, no meat I said no ...so I was directed to the exit right away.

In summary, i highly recommend to tick yes if u will being food such as pastries so u don't need to go to the X-ray machine at the custom area....customs know that most Filipinos will bring food such as pastries as pasalubongs,

I can just imagine the customs person saying "do you have magic suhrappp?" just makes me chuckle! I'm entering through LAX too in a couple of weeks and my mom gladly informed me I'm bringing corned beef cans for my uncle. I hope everything goes smoothly

They seem more strict about what's in your baggage than anything, which won't be a problem as long as you declare everything properly.

CBP has a list of restricted or prohibited items. Most meat products are listed as the transfer of disease with dead animals is very high. We were asked several times if we had any Kazy on our last trip back from Kazakhstan. We really wanted to bring some with us, but saw that it was prohibited so we had to leave in with her Mother. Too bad, as you cannot find horse sausage in the US.

I would have a look at the link provided and decide if the item you want to bring into the US is on the list.

Tell your mom we have corned beef in the US. Thats so heavy to carry. And you can get it here...several brands including ones popular in Philippines at the many Asian store all over the US. Have a great trip and I hope you luggage is not too heavy. hahaha

Don't have any tips on LA but Honolulu was no problem for us. Just wanted to wish you happiness together forever.

Yeah I told her that, but she said my uncle is complaining that the corned beef is not that good and wants the ones sold here in my country. the horror of carrying that around. Haha thanks!
