I just found out one of my uncles died today....another one died last week. A third died last year. My mom was one of 21 children (one father, three mothers). There were nearly 40 years from the oldest to the youngest. Now, including my mom, there are just three left; my remaining uncle on my mom's side is in poor health, and my remaining aunt on mom's side suffers severe alzheimer's.

I am sorry for your loss, Scott. It is one of the sad facts that as we get older we lose the generations that preceded us until we realize that we have become the family elders. My mother-in-law is the last one of her generation still alive in her family, and my Dad now jokes that he finds more of his friends in the obituaries than around town. He also jokes that he has to read them every day just to see if he is among them. That is not to make light of your loss, but to recognize the inevitable march of time. Times like this make it really apparent.

“...Isn't it splendid to think of all the things there are to find out about? It just makes me feel glad to be alive--it's such an interesting world. It wouldn't be half so interesting if we knew all about everything, would it? There'd be no scope for imagination then, would there?”

I know the feeling. I lost my brother and my aunt last year so now only my sister and I remain. It is a strange feeling. I do have my kids but all the relatives I grew up with are all gone! When I think about it I kind of get an empty feeling inside

But when we turn to the Hebrew literature, we do not find such jokes about the donkey. Rather the animal is known for its strength and its loyalty to its master (Genesis 49:14; Numbers 22:30).

So sorry Scott (F)

From 1998 until 2005 I lost a great deal as well. My twin sons and father the same year....then my maternal gramma (my beloved Gran Gran) 6 months later. 1 year later my paternal gramma passed. Then this past year my beloved mom passed. I have no family left to speak of. What few there are left I have NO idea where they are. So, it's just me. And my sweetheart Joel. And my daughter. His family in Canada are all I have. Until you have none, it's not so apparent how much family means. :(

I'm sorry Scott. (F) My father recently turned 79 and although he's in fairly good health, the years are catching up with him. He now has a permanent slouch. My mother is 73 and has a number of health problems including diabetes. I know I'm not ready to face when they will no longer be here...hoping I will cherish the times that I have left to spend with them.

My very sorry to hear of your loss. (F) May you find strength in your time of need.

I lost my parents within a 17 month span, it was devestating. I have no grandparents living and am not close to my brother. Gary is all my family here now. We must cherish their memories and take joy in having them in our lives for the time we did.
