it will cause delay on your visa since you still have to undergo sputum test. It will take 2 months to get the result. If its negative then you can go ahead on your interview, if positive the doctor will decide how many months you have to take medications. While waiting I suggest you arrange your documents like CENOMAR, BIRTH CERTIFICATE and etc. so all you have to do is to wait for your medical results.

Stay positive and God bless!

Yes it will cause delay on your process because when you do your medical at SLEC and they find something blurry or hazy in your xray, they will still subject you to another sputum exam.

But i did the chest xray it says all clear and. No problems. But on the PDD it says positive. Which makes me confused now :(

Hi, I thought they don't do PPD/ TST on adults?

Yeah, they dont do PDD to adults, i only did it just to make sure... But makes confused now coz my xray says all clear but on PDD says positive...

Once you have your MNL case number, you can proceed to SLEC and do the medical. Whatever shows up on SLEC's xray will determine if you need sputum or not.

Hi jenrick13, the skin test is not so reliable. A lot of people get false-positive or false-negative results.. I am glad your x-ray is normal. The x-ray is more reliable than the skin test.

The best thing for your to do is relax and let the process flow. When you go to SLEC, they will do all the tests and administer the vaccinations that you will need. There is no need to proceed any further with your private Doctor unless of course you were told by your Doctor that you have a particular aliment that needs attention. If not, then wait for your medical exam. Sometimes we have so many concerns from what we have read to what we have been told that it clouds what is the truth and what is false. Each person has a different case so to get overly excited IMHO is just adding a lot of stress where none is. Even if you found TB now, you will need to follow the regiment that SLEC has to do to satisfy the USEM. So, it's better to wait till your medical.

So sit back, don't worry. You'll know more after you have your medical at SLEC.

Good Luck

The skin test is not recommended for Filipinos because so many have received TB vaccinations. My wife has had positive skin tests and after the last one, she was told never to let anyone give her a skin test again due to the chance of a severe reaction in the area of the test. It seems the more times you receive the test and have a reaction, the more sensitive you are to the test.

Her x-rays are clear, so she is free of TB. But Filipinos should always ask for alternative methods if the need a TB test once they get to the states.

SLEC's xray may yield a different result from the xray that you had from another lab/hospital, so be prepared for that possibility as well.

I was afraid of the sputum too, since I had slight pneumonia back in 2009. I just went and did advance medical at SLEC last September. Thankfully, all is well.

Good luck to everyone. dancin5hr.gif

They don't do skin tests at SLEC on adults. So they use the chest xray to look for signs of TB. If it isn't clear to their liking, they will then do a sputum test, which requires an 8 week wait before they can determine you don't have TB.

A positive skin test may just mean you have a dormant variety of TB, which means nothing, as it is not contagious. If you have the active contagious variety, it will show up in your chest and sputum, which is why they rely on those.
