Is special documentation needed for a single parent to travel with a child to the USA?

Hello all,

My wife is a permanent resident and would like to invite her sister and her 7 year old nice here to the USA a 1 month visit on a tourist visa.

We are in the process of submitting the applications and I would like to know if her sister will need any type of special documentation to travel with her nice alone without the father of the child. They both have valid passports and we are in the process of applying for tourist visas. Also they are both Colombian citizens..

If any special documentation is needed as in a notarized letter from the father please advise. Also if you have a similar experience please share.

Good question! I came here with my daughter for a two week vacation to visit my boyfriend (not the father of the child) in 2008 and they never asked me about a letter from her father. Maybe it depends on from which country you are coming in.

But maybe because I was just staying for two weeks and not a month.
