Hi sad.png

Currently I'm serving in the Active duty Army component, My spouse is in Iraq, I have applied for her CR1 Visa, and Sent the IV package to NVC yesterday, I'm currently waiting for their reply, The problem is , in the Military they refused to enroll my spouse into DEERS, even though I have her birth certificate , and Marriage Certificate. they are requesting her personal presence , and that she will not get DEERS in Iraq.

Last week I recieved my PCS and the Dependent part was checked with "NO" ,

My question is , is there anyone in here had the same problem ? do anyone knows what shall I do to enroll her in to DEERS, ?I'm whole confused and desperate,

and my PLT Sgt is telling me that Iraq is off limit for US soldiers, so you cannot visit her !!!!

as far as i know. Personal appearance is needed. My husband told me before that i need to go to Bahrain from dubai for me to be enrolled in DEERS. Good thing the naval ship uss bush was in dubai, we had it processed there. But both usc spouse and foreign spouse should be there.

Hmmm, sounds reasonable, it looks difficult to make tavel arrangments from Iraq to Bahrain for this, can't it be done at an embassy in Iraq ?

Mean while was your husband recieving BAH before you enrolled into DEERS ?

Not sure if the country matters. But I was active duty in Japan. I was able to enroll my foreign spouse in deers with nothing more than a marriage certificate w/translation and her passport. I took the origionals of both and the personel office plugged her in. I would suggest you ask your personel office and see if they will do the same. Good luck.

yes. He was receiving bah. He was deployed in dubai, then there we met and then got married. After we got the papers he was able to make an appointment for deers enrolment. Then i had to go back to PI. I did remember that a commander told me that i can get my id in us embassy here in PI. why not check the us embassy in iraq if they have office processing deers enrolment. Goodluck Edited by biaobiao

Your husband needs to fill out a form and submit it to DEERS. Now to get the id you actually do need to be in the office. But you don't have to have an id to be covered by Tricare remote as your husbands SS number is your reference for that.

Dude did it seems you never listen to those meeting in your unit lol. If your military personnel country is matter. Girls/ male in iraq and afghan are off limits for military personnel. They need to get security clearance for that. If I am we're you I'm gonna talk to first sgt. If he didn't answer your question talk to commander. Screw the chain of command. They won't give you a answer. They won't apply them to Deers till your wife gets here in USA , get ssn, get green card, and security clearance.

What is this about security clearance? You don't need any clearance to date/marry anybody, nor does your spouse need a clearance.

I'm trying to understand what you mean by that because that makes no sense to me.

If you were deployed, and say there was an Iraqi contractor or Iraqi civilian on base, it's not against the rules to talk to them, hang out with them, etc. Heck, if you were doing patrols in Iraqi towns and met someone, once again, as long as you're sticking to the rules, it's not off-limits. As long as you follow the General Orders and such when it comes to military discipline, you can start up a relationship and everything out there. It's hard, I'll give you that, because it's such a stressful environment and you're always working or doing other stuff, but it's possible and not illegal/off-limits.

Not to mention nobody's "off limits." I mean sure, you gotta follow the law (no minors) and you have to keep it out of your chain of command (don't date your supervisor/commander, etc.), but otherwise, the military has no legal authority to dictate who you can or cannot associate with/date/marry. Yes, they CAN make it difficult for you, but they have no legal authority to say no or prevent you from doing so.

I got my wife enrolled into DEERS while she was still in Bulgaria; they required only a marriage certificate, birth certificate, and certified translations. I walked into the MPS, handed it to them, and within a week, she was in there. It was only her ID that required a presence, and even then, she didn't need her SSN for it (it hadn't been issued to her yet when she got it.

And I'll say this; never cut out your chain of command in matters such as this. NEVER. Even if they can't give you answers, you go all the way up the chain until you've exhausted the line. And if/when that happens (heck, I only had to go as far as my supervisor to get all the resources I needed), there will always be the fact that you properly utilized it when you needed to, and your chain will be more inclined to be supportive and helpful during the whole process. Your chain is designed to be able to get you the resources, help, and support you need to be able to do pretty much anything. Cutting them out only hurts you more.
