1) I dont have to renew every year for my combo card. GC and AP can use to travel but I am more relaxable with GC than AP. My medical exam is about to expire which I want to have my GC as soon as possible so that I dont have to go see Civil Surgeon again ( money).

2) I dont have to renew my driver license every year ( money).

3) I can apply US Citizenship early which means I dont have to deal with USCIS again.

New Journey AOS:

My fiancee came to US on the 8th of March, 2014 under K-1 visa at Newark, NJ Airport for POE.

Applied Social Security Number on the 10 of March, 2014.

Married on the 13th of March, 2014.

Sent I-485, I-765, and I-131 on the 15th of March, 2014.

Received EAD on June 7, 2014.

Received Notice of Potential Interview Waiver on July 1, 2014 date 6/27

Contacted Ombudsman on 01/12/2015.

Ombudsman contacted USCIS on 02/20/2015.

Ombudsman sent a follow up to USCIS on 03/18/2015.

I-485 approved on 03/31/2015 ( we ordered your card).

Welcome notice was mailed on 04/01/2015.

Received Welcome Notice on 04/08/2015.

Card was mailed to me/picked up by USPS on 04/08/2015.

Received GC on 4/10/2015.

They're likely referring to the scaremongering statement from the USCIS union last year. It simply referred to the plan to expand eligibility for interview waiver cases. I highly doubt there's any way

In addition some jobs especially federal government positions require you to be a U.S. citizen. The sooner you get the GC the sooner you're on the road to citizenship.

Got an update last Thursday (12/11) saying that we were approved. Shortly after I receivied a series of texts saying that the GC was in production, and then in the mail. It took us just over the 6m mark from the interview waiver to get the GC. Looks like it will be a Merry Christmas after all!

I have my combo card and got the possible waiver letter, but we can't understand what is important about the "green card". I know I would have to renew in one year, but is there a benefit to the green card that I haven't clued in to? Other than the possibility of not being allowed back in when I leave. Thanks.

  • You are eligible to be a US citizen 5 years (or 3 years if married to a US citizen) from the beginning date on the Green Card.
  • You can get on loans and acquire credit for longer than you EAD/AP/Combo Card is valid for.
  • You are not a permanent resident until you have a Green Card.
  • And probably a bunch of other things (e.g. Driver licences) that expire when your EAD would expire.

Congratulations to you and the other new GC recipients!

At least you give us hope that it will really happen.

Also, with the GC you can complete a FASFA and apply for Financial Aid for college and grad school.

It depends on how long you've been married. I just looked your timeline, and it'll be the 2 year green card because you've been married less than 2 years.

Your NOA was in March, so it looks like things are advancing! Could you please update your timeline with your approval?
