So my fiancée went for her CFO class the other day....and now is going thru her medical

We will get the sticker on her way thru Manila to the USA

So during the one on one interview.....she is answering questions...and the guy says she should come back for a further one on one interview

My fiancée says ..."look...my flights this week and for my other trip for my embassy interview are all set....I am not leaving this room without my certificate"

So he consults with someone else

And the bottom line was that he wanted money for lunch for 3 people.....when she asked how much, she did not get an answer...so she gave him 500 php...

She got her certificate....a very cheap bribe....but nonetheless a bribe

I hate corruption (hmmm...that must be why I hate politicians LOL)

I am sure the Philippines is rife with corruption

It indeed is. Quite sad, but there is just a culture of corruptness seeping from high up in the government and trickles down to every aspect of society :(. It's a beautiful country, with amazing. I love the country, I really do. But sometimes it's just too much.

It's quite common for most south east asian countries

I know there is corruption in the Philippines..but just like beggars, there wont be any beggars if people stop giving handouts. don't get me wrong, I understand your fiancee's situation but then again, situation wont change if there are people who are allowing this to happen.

First of all, i am sad this happened to your fiancée.

Secondly, I just would like to share my sentiments ...so bear with me, VJ people and bgamb.

When i had my CFO seminar last month, I had one on one interview with a lady guidance counselor and it was 20 minutes interview... It was a cordial and very nice interaction and ended smoothly and left CFO office with my CFO certificate.

If only your fiancé agreed to attend the one on one interview on another day and did not say she will not leave the room without the certificate, the incident would not had happened at all.

Your statement that you are sure the Philippines is a rife of corruption is uncalled for...how can u say it is rife where it was just one office ur venting...a little respect of our country, Philippines, is highly appreciated.

Lastly, remember ur fiancée is from the Philippines and will always be from the Philippines no matter what citizenship she will have in the future.

Peace everyone.

No, it's not uncalled for. It's a true statement. Look at the current and past administrations. Look at the poll on this forum now, and of the protest earlier in the week over government corruption.

I am not from the PI, but I have been there, and seen it on a small scale. And my wife, as well as most of my PI friends, talk of all the corruption, and even post news articles on FB about it. It's sad, but it's true. And of course, by no means the only country with the problem. We have it here too, but it's portrayed (and hidden) differently.

Gotta agree with Dave on this one, corruptions is very common in the Phils. Heck I just asked my wife if there was corruptions in the government in the Philippines and she laughed then said it everywhere in the government.

Unfortunately Netsikai.....as is often the case....many people are so skewed by their nationalism that they get insult by the facts

I am sure you are also insulted when someone brings up the Filipina scammers who marry just to get out of the country. Is it "all" Filipinas? Of course not...but it is enough to create a very wary suspicion...and to shed a suspicious light on all

Like the other commenter...I have only been in the Philippines 3 times,,,,yet from reading...and talking to many Filipinos both here and there...it IS rife with corruption....that's what poverty does I'm afraid

example: Are there worthless politicians here in the USA that don't do the right thing? Yep...a lot of them....

I'm not afraid of the negative facts in my country....and you should learn to be the same about the wrong things in your own country

Pride regarding nationalism is nothing but divisive....IMO

All countries are and should be appreciated about the GOOD things.....yet all countries have their bad things....accept it...don't try to gloss over the facts

And yes...my wonderful Filipina fiancée will "always be a Filipina"....but I hope she does not walk around trying to blindly convince herself of untruths

...or to deny outright facts just to make herself feel better about her country....that is childish...so immature

I don't want you to feel badly....but you really have to grow up....

I would like to suggest to u or ur fiancee to report this to CFO. let their administration know about what that guy did to your fiancee...cfo does not tolerate this kind of bribery or corruption. if u let them know and tell them who that person is or about this incident, right there and then they will kick out that person.. I am just saying this because my counselor mentioned this to me last time she called me..this might help lessen those corrupt people inside their office. This is not the first time i read about this kind of incident at CFO. the one I knew happened in Cebu..

Yeahh! Try to stand your ground. When you get 221(g) like we did. I am a FilAm. My fiancee was told from her local province they can do NBI with AKA but will take at least 14 working days to process. Called the NBI HQ and was informed that they should be able to do it locally within hours. Local province insisted they can't do it. So she went to the NBI HQ - was told it will take several days. That's when you talk to someone and give them "early xmas present", and your papers are ready that afternoon.

It's really true: Graft and Corruption exists because of needs. If you stick by the book you're in for a surprise: you've waited 14 days and the papers you received was under a mispelled name (Oopss!). Early on she requested 2 copies of NSO CENOMAR. One was with the correct name; and how do you explain that the other one is spelled wrong! No refunds, the supervisor just said pay again to get another one. Start the process again...."Oh sorry we must have misplaced your paperwork." is another excuse. Just my .02 cents.

I wonder who that guy is from CFO. I'm sorry this happened to your fiance. I attended the CFO Tuesday afternoon maybe we did attend the seminar the same time and same day?

A guy did my interview but everything went well, he interviewed me for less than 5 minutes only. I was confused for a lil moment though, he told me that he rarely encounters couple with K1 that doesnt have age gap given that my fiance is a US citizen. (my fiance and I are 26) I believe telling that to an applicant is not necessary.

Going back,

Anti fixers campaign logo is everywhere in that building. So ironic that someonefrom inside can stomach doing a dirty job, so if someone was mistreated and attacked in discreet way, you need to report it immediately.

Your fiancee is an accomplice to this case. therefore she is part of the corruption. Corruption could have not gone far if she said no and decided to just go back the next day for another one on one interview. The guy being accused has mainly had the decent actions not until the accomplice to the act had started the whole game.. Anyways you got the sticker so its a WIN WIN situation. The Ugly part on it is you complain about it when you are so part of it. Got it? PEACE!

You are right....but....it would have caused untold heartache...much more money...to change plans and plane reservations that were in place

I am glad she did it...this time

Normally I would have turned the guy in if it were me....but our backs were against the wall...I don't regret her actions one bit

Sometimes we are pawns and have to do things we may normally despise

I wonder if you goody-two-shoes arm chair quarter backs would have done it or not....if it meant you would have to reschedule your flight to the USA by a day at a cost of $600 plane fare increase....hmmm?

Think VERY carefully before you respond....words passed thru the internet are cheap

We all know the answer.....you'd HAPPILY pass over the 500Php's......!

So you few.....please stop being so self righteous
