Anyone find it ironic that so many French people complain about the danger of guns in society from one corner of their mouth while every few years screaming for help from invasion (help from the barrels of guns of course) from the other corner?

From my side the humor on this issue has long since evaporated. Summary: You have now offended someone. You can however try to make up for this offense by explaining the above irony.

Then you may return to discussion of "surrender tactics of the easter bunny in France" or whatever you were talking about. My view on this and answer to your specific post is that probably the reason they are used widely in France and use is allowed in France is that If kids in France were seen to be as important as kids here then French people would at a minimum be able and willing to protect them. The candies were not banned because kids choke on the little toys however. Simple explanation. It should not come as a stunning surprise. This is the original reason they could not be sold here. The 1938 Federal Food, Drug, and Cosmetic Act contains a section highlighting that a confectionery product with a non-nutritive object, partially or totally imbedded within it, cannot be sold within the United States, unless the FDA issues a regulation that the non-nutritive object has functional value

Old law. Before our time. The FDA just re-iterated the rule in 2012 to sort of add "OH and by the way British kids choke on these toys so they are a choking hazard too". The petition is currently closed due to lack of interest, sort of like where Obamacare is going.

Anything else?

Love what you said about the French. Surrender after 3 weeks. We are so good at this. And thank you for the information about why it was banned.

Now, as for the danger of guns in society. The difference is, we, the French, have never been allowed to carry an arm to defend ourselves. Furthermore, it's near impossible to prove self-defense when it comes to murder cases.

Also, we french people are VERY willing to protect our children. If we weren't, they weren't be so many books about how to raise a baby the French way etc.

We know this. The irony is that the French have no problem with others carrying arms (and dying behind those arms) to defend them. Sort of takes the wind out of the sails on the "willingness to protect our own children" story but hey whatever.

More irony: Raising little socialists commies while expecting others to defend you from someone else's socialist commies isn't our definition of success. Forbes has an answer to your book

Fixed. All better.

we french people are VERY willing to protect our children.

WE can see the French regard for their children by simply perusing the child injury death rates in the EU member states. The Eastern countries are left out, we want to compare "developed" member states.

Very willing? Hardly. France is, as was earlier guessed (but before the stats were located) near the bottom.

The police do their job. That's the way it is.

I don't want to and will never touch a gun in my life. I studied psychology. The fact is, psychologically, you are more prone to using the fire arm if you have one when in the same situation, you would find other ways to deal.

The stereotypes about socialists? OH PLEASE! It's not because dumb people voted for Francois Holland that we are all socialist. It's the must ridiculous thing I've ever heard!

Why do you want kids to die

why would you be ok with introducing something that could injure a kid

Oh because guns can't injure kids?? Or knives? Or forks even?

Should we ban forks and knifes just because they can hurt a kid?

Following your logic, we should ban everything including solid food, because you just never know!

Oh because guns can't injure kids?? Or knives? Or forks even? Yup my grandson was a bit skittish when he fired the rifle for the first time and got a bruised shoulder. But he handles a knife well enough to cut the guts out nicely when he gets to. Nothing like warm deer guts on fresh leaves in the fall

This will not be over quickly. You will not enjoy this.
