is it a must that one has to pay $165.00 for a child having entered the US and the passport stamped with permanent resident stamp and valid for one year.

Since I am a US citizen and I planned to apply for his US passport immediately, Is there any point in paying $165 for processing the Green card.

Once the child obtain a US passport, there would be no need for the Green Card.

Can someone help with this topic ? . Thanks.

Hello Darnell!

Would you mind to elaborate on how to avoid paying the 165 usd for a Green Card?

My baby girl will be entering the US as an LPR but will automatically acquire US Citizenship. Do we need to pay the 165 usd?

THANK YOU!

Rudy

NLR

Did exactly what you said. Found Darnell's post.

It does not indicate any source regarding the info he is providing.

My wife already has her passport with her immigrant visa on it, but has not yet entered the US.

Along with her passport, she received a letter from the embassy stating that she must pay the 165 usd fee BEFORE entering the US.

So I do not think you can avoid paying the fee, even if for a child of USC who is immigrating. If someone could find a link to an official source that would be great.

My 2 cents

The fee is for the green card production. Maybe Call the USCIS and ask then:

Please contact the USCIS Customer Service Center at 1-800-375-5283 if you have questions about paying the fee.
