America certainly has a love affair with guns and automobiles. For some reason it is part of the culture. I try to look beyond that. I see a change in society during my life time. We have some areas and trouble spots throughout the country where something is definitely wrong. Life means nothing to some. Kids think nothing of killing someone they have a beef with. Where does it start, at home? Single parent homes in bad areas? Generations of poverty and no education? Why does a minority that makes up 15% of the population commit 50% of the murders? All serious questions.

You know, when I think of people in my life that have gone down the crime route, I can't think of any, really any, that weren't involved one way or another with drugs.

more than 25% of gun owners admitting that they have no interest in guns and bought them on an impulse.....

I never heard that before in my life ,post a link to back up this claim.

I posted the information before. The bought on impulse is my interpretation but there are lots of statistics that show that the number 1 reason for having a gun is no longer because people have an interest in shooting or hunting but as a means for protection. Of that number, there are some who will take the responsibility to learn to use it I am sure, but a heck of a lot more who simply buy it, take it home and basically think that's all that's required.

Spread the good word. By all means own a gun if you want to, but with that ownership comes responsibility. take that responsibility seriously and it's a win win all the way around. Good for gun owners and those who do not want to own guns alike.

I believe that the responsibility must be taken seriously. I highly recommend actually shooting you gun once in a while. That's the only way to really stay in practice. I was very fortunate to have a father and close family members teach me correctly at an early age. A new gun owner could join a club or find another responsible gun owner to help him out. There really is a good community of gun owners out there who love to help people new to the sport.

Today that is without a doubt the #1 factor. And it goes downhill from there.

Most gun owners I know are like me in that respect. Obviously there are too many that don't take the responsibility seriously. But then again, the ones who are shooting each other on a daily basis have no regards for human life, and that truly is the root of the problem. When I went to school, two kids got in a fight, maybe one got their a$$ kicked and that was the end of it. Nobody beat anyone into unconsciousness or worse. Nobody kicked someone when they were down. Maybe video game really are a problem. I wish I had the answers.

I don't think any of the gun owners here are part of the problem.

For the most part, I think you are probably right about that. I think that some post what they do to get a rise out of the faithful and it seems to work time after time.

People are getting gunned down in the streets, shot in the back, for the crime of being white.

Why do you find it out people want guns for protection.

What I like about all these studies is first of all, they're tax-payer funded. Secondly, they're done by medical and/or academic sources and the overall goal is always to illustrate how dangerous firearms ownership is. If you can't see the ultimate goal of these studies is to prevent citizens from private ownership of arms, you're missing the point.

"You're five times more likely to be shot by a gun in your home than to use it in defense." No sh!t. If you drive a car, you're five times more likely to get into an auto accident than if you walk to work every day. Did we need a million dollar study to come to that conclusion?

Where are all the statistics of firearms being used in defense and/or stopping crimes? Where are those studies? Why doesn't the government or academia publish those findings?

the ones who are shooting each other on a daily basis have no regards for human life,

Those folks are typically carrying guns illegally that they've acquired by illegal means. It's already illegal to shoot someone yet the type of person that will kill another is somehow supposed to be stopped by more laws?

I keep hearing this call for universal background checks and registrations and blah, blah, blah. Folks, this group of parasitic degenerates has no issue with breaking the laws already on the books. Do you really think new laws are going to curb their behavior?

Or perhaps you're hoping there will just be less guns and therefore it'll be harder for these folks to get their hands on them. "Less guns means less gun crime." Perhaps that's why they have such a hard time getting drugs.

It's not in the least bit difficult to imagine. Quite the opposite. If you like guns and shooting then there is no reason for you not to indulge your pass time. I only wonder about those people who buy a gun for protection but have no interest in guns or shooting and don't do anything with the gun but have it around the house 'just in case'. That seems to me to be insane and with 40% of households owning guns and more than 25% of gun owners admitting that they have no interest in guns and bought them on an impulse as a means of self protection and this is a rising number, the number of gun owners who are not at all like you is high and rising.

Why is that a problem? Are these people a danger to society?

How is it any different than having a swimming pool you don't swim in? It just sits there in the home... just in case you want to take a swim.

I know a ton of responsible gun owners. Its just too much man. Too many, far too many guns at this point. Its like food in America. Way too much for one person just because we think its our right? All the while its killing us. I dunno man, they do more harm than good in an individual's hands IMO

Who is getting killed by guns? I keep hearing all this hoopla over all the murders and innocent people getting slaughtered. Where?

Folks seem to ignore the hundreds of thousands of people dying by other means. I just can't wrap my head around this thought process that dying at the end of a gun is somehow worse than dying by some other way.

When you pay people to do nothing more than sit around watching TV and having kids, this is what happens. When families are destroyed and the morality of a people is non-existent, you get this result.

We're paying for it to happen and we're paying for it to get worse every year.

Folks have to stop moving away from their problems. The problems breed faster than we can move away from them. Luckily for most suburban white folks, they'll never have to deal with it. But, their kids will. By the time their kids are grown and buying their own cookie-cutter houses far enough away from the city that they don't have to personally witness brown people doing bad things, the numbers will have overtaken them and they'll have to deal with it first-hand.

US Census predicted it to happen in 2036. It's probably going to happen sooner and if the FED has anything to do with it, our currency will be long gone before then anyway. Probably be more like 2020 or sooner.

The number one reason why people move is for work, not to escape their environment. You do make a lot of up in order to illustrate your very weird vision of what the US is and will become in the next 50 years.

Why have AED in so many places ?..The chances of someone having cardiac failure in that exact place are remote

The chances of someone actually using one properly and saving someones life are even more remote

Whats the point..You stand a better chance of being a crime victim than you do of needing an AED or a smoke detector for that matter.
