The predictions and fears of the Affordable Care Act’s adversaries have begun to materialize, specifically fears that the law will encourage employers to demote their employees to part-time positions in order to evade federal health care requirements. Popular clothing company Forever 21 is the first of what might be many companies to limit its non-management workers’ hours to 29.5 a week, just below the 30-hour minimum that the ACA deems full-time work.

I almost went to blows over their no cash refund policy. I walked out before the cops showed up. The wife was a little freaked out seeing that side of me for the first time.

I've always been amused at how they "hide" Bible quotes on the bottoms of their bags. You know, the part that touches the floor when you set it down. Classy.

indeed. we'll all remember this fateful day. the day of the forever21 economic collapse.

That is the problem with liberal media and liberals did not understand, every business is out there to make money.

Forcing them into buying insurance is not the way; you think until now every company that offers benefit for its employees are giving benefit coz they are forced by gov?

Every business has to make money so they would do everything they can to reduce their cost, cutting down everyone’s hours from 30 to 29.5 per week, simple. You and me if we still have to make ends meet we work 2 jobs now but why does the congress care.

Its a cop out man. Once again, they're pushing off healthcare for their employees to the tax payers. Look, everyone is going to get health care. No matter what. All of this half a$$ attempt is only benefiting employers. I say, make it completely socialized and force employer/tax payer participation for all. God forbid an employer has to account for their employees healthcare. In America, a dying person is never going to be rejected at the hospital door because they don't have healthcare. So you're paying for them and yourself. And the forever 21's of the world aren't paying for any of it.

I think you'll find a lot of liberals actually agree with this. Unfortunately, it's the hand we've been dealt (employer-based insurance), and other options don't appear to be on the table.

... and I'm not alluding to a specific option not being on the table, by the way. I literally mean that nothing else has been seriously proposed.

I think we were already well on our way to most employers dumping health insurance as a benefit on their own, to be honest.

I think corporate greed is evil and exactly the thing that laws should curtail. Sucking the life out of a company to make extra bucks for the boss is a bad thing. I fundamentally reject the notion that this is good or the way things naturally "are."

This whole issue is political and not based in real arithmetic. CEOs are pissed that they might have to give up 1% or some silly number of their megatastic income so that their workers can have insurance. Newsflash: they can afford to give them insurance. If they can't then their business sucks and they should go under and let another business do it better.

Businesses can make money and have a solvent business and also give healthcare and other perks to people. Businesses can give their workers a living wage, and that should be what employers strive for. Henry Ford believed that his average workers should be able to buy his cars, an expensive item, and his model of increasing wages for his employees, and he did just fine. He was so rich he bought buildings in Europe and had them moved to his house so he could have a cool yard.

And, just so you know, "forcing them to buy insurance" is a Republican/conservative idea.
