Over a month. It was hard.

Gotta leave for work soon or I would.

One month is pretty good. I know I've only been looking for 2 weeks but I worry that 2 weeks is going to stretch into several months. If I thought I would get a job in just 2 weeks I would relax but I really don't think that's going to happen.

I'm the beneficiary.

You'd think so... but somehow I was able to get internships pretty easily. Maybe it's just easier to get an internship in general. (I've even applied to a few internships here but I haven't even heard back from those!)

Also, in Spain almost all jobs required decent English skills... So I kind of stood out among the crowd in that department. Here I don't think my Spanish skills have quite the same effect lol.

What kind of job are you looking for? I would have thought speaking Spanish would be an advantage in the States. As Darnell said, you should volunteer somewhere and build up a network of contacts.

Today is still very hot in Minnesota, highest 97 degree. Excessive heat warning remains in effect until midnight CDT tonight.

I don't want to go outside.

This!

Also, how are you looking? Online sites? Word of mouth? Going out and asking for apps?

I love a guy who looks like he could be on Criminal Minds as either an agent or a killer.

Welcome to America...

getting hired is a weird thing - best to start making new acquaintances through the local chamber of commerce in the city where you live. heck - i even recommend volunteering at some events - business owners and salespeople always attend - so you'll be talking to the folk that usually hire staff.

hmm.. that might be something to look into. Thanks for the idea

I'm the beneficiary.

I guess it would be an advantage in Miami or Texas. I've applied to a few jobs in Texas though that I haven't heard back from.

I'm looking for an Actuarial Analyst position (mostly in insurance companies, but also consulting). But yeah, I'll definitely look into volunteering.

I'm looking online only. Do you think going in person and asking for apps would be more effective?

Would you have to take an exam to become an actuarial analyst in the States? Do you have to learn knew laws regarding actuarial practices? I don't know. How about a course at a community college while you wait to find a job. Get talking, and maybe set up your own business?
