Did not read all of that but I am guessing he is saying what I have said all along. Slavery or a form of it did not truly start ending in the deep south until the late 70's

I was there and saw it in color.

Hey. Once all blacks in the Southern States were slaves, and women couldn't vote. In England Emily Pankhurst chained herself to street poles as well as starving herself. Maybe she suffered for ridiculuous reasons in the general public's eyes at that time. But guess what? Women now have the vote and blacks are no longer slaves in the States(in theory).

To reiterate , baby steps should not be dismissed.

I'm not dismissing baby steps per se. I'm dismissing laws that first of all, have a snowball's chance in hell of getting passed, and second of all if they do get passed, will probably get shot down by the supreme court. Even if they do get passed, I'd argue that it wont do much to change the levels of gun violence in this country.

What about my idea of giving life without parole to anyone caught committing a crime with a gun? That might work. Not as a deterrent, but simply as a way to keep dangerous gun toting criminals off the streets for the rest of their lives.

Yes, 100 year ago, it was in full swing. Things didn't really end until the 70's. They couldn't buy land, couldn't vote, etc.

Are you saying the laws passed in the 50s and early 60s didn't resolve the issue?

Some is gang violence. The thing is most gang members don't walk up and shoot their target, it's usually drive by's or point and spray.

There are quite a few cases of just random folks getting shot for just being outside, these don't make the national news. Just like Chicago didn't even start to get attention until Sandy Hook happened.

Even in drive by shooting either point or spray it is always one gang member targeting another gang member.

I don’t think they just drive by and shoot a kid selling lemonade who is not involved in the gang or a guy just mowing the grass.

There are innocent victims there is no doubt in it but there is only innocent victim when they around a known gang member.

It shall be unlawful - 18 U.S.C. § 922 : US Code - Section 922

for any person -

(A) except a licensed importer, licensed manufacturer, or

licensed dealer, to engage in the business of importing,

manufacturing, or dealing in firearms, or in the course of such

business to ship, transport, or receive any firearm in

interstate or foreign commerce; or

(B) except a licensed importer or licensed manufacturer, to

engage in the business of importing or manufacturing

ammunition, or in the course of such business, to ship,

transport, or receive any ammunition in interstate or foreign

commerce;

on and on..............

So who is non FFL dealer and how is that legal ?

The ATF reports that between 50% and 75% of the vendors at gun shows possess a Federal Firearms License

Did you even read Brady Check and Gun Traces, yes the incidents included as the gun show loop holes don’t are criminal anyways.

Ex. A FFL Dealer filing off the serial number a guy posing a police officer and shows a fake ID to make a purchase….. these are criminal activity anyways.

Still you have not said who is non FFL dealer.

Laws are no good if every single person refuses to follow them. If you do some reading, you'll see that for every act of desegregation, there were large amounts of civil unrest. The first black man to go to Ole Miss had to be escorted by 500 US Marshalls and the United States Military just to get an education. And before then they tried to change the law just to stop him from going there.

A 7 year old selling lemonade in front of her house is responsible for a gang member buying from her and being gunned down?

Here's the problem with that logic, gang members don't always hang around other gang members. They have family, friends, and just plain innocent bystanders.

The list I posted was folks who were caught in the crossfire.

I never said the guy selling lemonade or guy mowing the yard were gang member but they were probably around a targeted gang member at time of shooting.

Again this whole discussion is turning into something different from OP original post.

The original post was a felon using the gun which he should not have had in first place and how a guy with CC was able to protect himself and probably other ppl around him.
