Hello VJ family, we're brand new here and new to the whole visa journey, so appreciate all your advice and discussions.

My husband and I were married here in Ghana a few months ago, can I apply for the I-130 petition here while staying on a visitors visa and just send it to the Chicago Lock Box? Or, do I have to return to California in order to file it?

What is your experience, for those of you who are married.

We don't want to be seperated but want to do what works as well.

Thanks for you input. smile.png

you could file to the lockbox in Chicago whenever yer ready. Your physical location not matter.

Sometimes my language usage seems confusing - please feel free to 'read it twice', just in case !

I see you have DCF on your profile. Did you already check for the requirements for DCF residency? Because that would be great if you could do that.

But as Darnell said where you are on the planet doesn't matter if you have to send back to the US. If you leave in California your petition will go to Phoenix.

Wow, I am impressed with your helpfulness, all of you. So I guess as long as I send it to the right place it doesn't matter if I'm only a visitor in a country? Unfortunately I do not qualify for the DCF, as I am not a permanent resident of Ghana for the minimum 6 months. Thanks again. Any other advice is greatly appreciated!!!
